the blonde pogue placed his hand on the door knob, carefully pushing it open. it creaked as he did so. though, when it finally opened he pushed his way through. jj took a couple steps through the house before releasing a small sigh. "dad?" his voice called out once he came to a stop. when there was no reply, jj continued through the house. it didn't take long to find him. limply lying across the couch in the sitting room, his dad snored with his hands over his chest. jj stared down at the man, a blank expression spread across his features.

jj stepped towards his father, moving around the coffee table until he was directly infront of the sleeping man. his eyes gazed down at him. he was out cold. jj's eyes landed on the numerous empty beer cans which were spread across the coffee table, along with a packet of cigarettes. the house was mess, there was no finding anything. jj sighed.

"dad, i need the keys to the phantom." jj spoke up, loud enough to wake the man. but he didn't open an eye, instead he continued to snore loudly, the sound practically echoing throughout the small, cold house. "dad?" he called out. he didn't receive an answer. jj glanced down at the table once again, his eyes landing upon a capsule of pills. jj lifted it in his hands, his blue eyes scanning the writing. luke maybank. thirty pills. ambien. sedative hypnotic sleep medication. his eyes travelled between his father and the pills. he gently placed them back on the table, his eyes growing glossy.

jj pushed his lips into a thin line, his eyes focusing back on his father. in a moment like that, there was only one thing he needed. and he promised to save her. he didn't know how much time he had. suddenly, jj furrowed his eyebrows and his hand reached out for the chain around his fathers neck. gently, he lifted the chain slightly. the keys were attacked to the end. jj exhaled deeply before moving towards the coffee table once again, spotting a pencil and tweezers. he lifted them into his hands, gazing at them for a moment before focusing his attention on the chain again.

jj knelt down to the ground, his hands slowly moving towards the keys. but before he could remove it from his fathers neck, the man's eyes slowly opened, meeting with his own. "i didn't expect to see you." luke's deep voice mumbled. jj pulled the pen and tweezers away from the man, trying to keep it from his eyesight as he moved backwards. "you're back."

luke sat up straight on the couch, his hand immediately moving towards a beer bottle on the coffee table. jj nodded his head, taking a couple steps backwards. "yeah, no, i just... just checkin' in." jj came up with, letting the lie fall from his lips.

"school out already?" luke asked, almost setting jj back. the blonde maybank furrowed his eyebrows in surprise, his face beginning to grow red.
