Jay's POV
"Look over there!""Jay this isn't the time for your silly games," Nya rolled her eyes.
"Me play games? Never," Jay chuckled.
Nya threw her head back smiling. Jay's laugh was comforting in a way she wouldn't have thought a giggle could be.
"Seriously Nya look!"
Now Nya wanted to play with him. Clearly what he was seeing was interesting and consuming his attention.
She stretched her arms out and let out a loud yawn. "You know I'm really tired," she smiled holding back a grin.
"Come on Nya! You won't be able to see much longer if you don't look!"
Nya couldn't hold back her smile now.
"You're messing with me," she smirked softly.
"What's the worst that would happen I was? Hm? It's not a big deal!" Nya heard Jay fold his arms as she had been maintaining 0 eye contact in order to irritate Jay which seemed to be working.
"You'll probably get all hysterical and laugh your butt off! Besides," she smiled sweetly, "if it's not a big deal why should I look?"
"Because I know you'll be disappointed if you miss this," Jay said sounding a bit off.
Nya didn't pick up on his tone. "And why's that?"
"Because it's bothering you right now... you've been kicking yourself for not paying attention before, for not showing you care, that you see-"
"Jay what's with this deep rooted philosophy talk all of a sudden," Nya laughed into her shoulder as the wind blew.
The two were sitting on the edge of the bounty. No one else was there. It wasn't in motion. Nya couldn't remember why she was there but she didn't really care.
The world felt inane in her eyes. Even if she looked at what Jay was so philosophically enthralled by she supposed she wouldn't notice as Jay's company was so beautifully present in her own little world.
She closed her eyes as the warm breeze blew on her face as the sun began to set.
"Nya?"
"Yes?"
"Stop."
Nya opened her eyes but still did not look at Jay.
"What?" She asked with some confusion.
"It's your fault if you miss this...again."
Nya held her arms.
"What do you mean again?" She laughed absentmindedly.
"Show that you care!" Jay said with some urgency.
Nya would now look but something felt wrong like if she looked the situation would become less romantic than the moment she was enjoying currently.
"Why would I care about something that's probably dumb?"
Jay sighed.
"Is that how you always felt?"
"About what?"
"Me?"
Nya felt a pit in her stomach.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Nya swallowed hard on her words.
"I thought you would have at least been honest, especially towards yourself."
Now Nya turned over despite herself to look at Jay.
It was him, but he seemed to look as if his soul or some very important part of him was missing. He looked lost, he looked...sad.
"Okay Jay stop this isn't funny it's just annoying," Nya said growing weary.
Jay inhaled deeply in disappointment.
"You promised to fix things."
"Stop it Jay."
"You promised me."
"I'm warning you!"
"But then again I'm not Jay."
Nya's heart sank.
"But you knew that, that's why you were refusing to look at me."
"No, no I-"
"You still haven't seen what I've been desperately trying to show you."
"Because you aren't real! Whatever you show me is what's in my own head to make me feel better for...for what happened to Jay, the real Jay.
"No, your time for feeling sad is over. You want me back? You want the real Jay back?"
"Of course I do! But he's- he's gone. And it's... it feels like all my fault."
Nya closed her eyes feeling the sting in her heart.
"Does it really matter whose fault it was? Would Jay truly care whose fault it is?"
Nya didn't answer.
Fake Jay chuckled.
"You are afraid he won't ever remember. So what? You won't even try? Ninja never quit. Jay would never quit on you. He never has. It's time you do the same. You love him?"
Nya held her eyes shut as tightly as she could.
"More than anything," she whispered.
"Then save him."
Nya opened her eyes.
The fake or imaginary Jay was gone.
She finally looked over to where he had wanted her to look. It was her yang medallion.
She hadn't looked at it for so long. The sight of it just broke her heart.
A tear fell from her eye. She sniffed.
"I'm going to get you back... I promise," she said as she clenched her fist falling to her knees in regret and despair.
