Nya sat on the bounty's bow. Her legs hanged off the edge relaxed. She looked down only to see clouds through the endless night sky. Nya crinkled her nose and shivered as the chilly, brisk air touched her skin. She rubbed her arms in attempts to warm herself.
She of course could go back inside but she wasn't in the mood to face everyone. She could hear voices echo from the bounty's quarters. She couldn't bring herself to talk about the years they had been apart.
Nya was thrilled that Zane was alright. They nearly had all of their team back, but that was the problem, they nearly had all their team back.
Nyas heard ached at the prospect of the merges upcoming 5th anniversary which would also make it 5 years she hadn't seen him. Was he okay? Was he happy? Did he miss her as much as she missed him? A million questions rushed through her head.
The uncertainty of it all really made her uneasy.
Nya needed to feel in control. Jay helped her feel in control. When she couldn't control her powers he was there to lend a helping hand.
Oh good, she thought, more time to reminisce our time apart. The year she had merged with the sea was more of blur than anything but the moment she regained her human conscious the time was unforgivingly clear. The effect of her absence was ever present. The atmosphere was different and foreign. Nya hadn't had much time to reflect on her time in the sea after the ninja were swept into prison. Again, more time lost with her friends and family.
After defeating the crystal king, Nya thought she would have time to be with her family and she did but not long enough.
Jay and Nya, not long before the merge, went away for some one on one couple time. Nya smiled at the memory. One memory of the trip particularly stuck with her.
"You're not going to go zapping everything now are you?" Nya groaned holding tightly onto Jays hand. The two were walking on the beach at sundown. It was a totally cliché scene but it was romantic.
"Hmm maybe," Jay said smirking at his girlfriend sending to her hand in his a gentle shock. Nya jumped caught by surprise. "Don't do that," Nya glared by Jay only found it amusing. Nya looked at her feet and frowned. Jay immediately knew what was troubling her. "You'll get your powers back too," Jay comforted. Nya have a soft smile enough to satisfy Jay but she didn't think she ever would.
The couple walked on the shore in silence enjoying each others company. Jay had tripped at one point over an abandoned flip-flop bringing Nya out of her insecurities to laugh at Jays ungainly poise.
They continued their tranquil walk along beach when Nya hear music in the distance coming in the direction of the resort.
Nya pulled Jays arm leading him to were the sound was coming from. Before them were guest of the resort dancing to the music the d-jay provided.
Nya without hesitation pulled Jay to the dance floor. "Think we'll still have the hang of it?" Nya grinned. "I don't know," Jay said taking Nyas hand, impressively twirling her around into a dip. "Something tells me we've still got it," Jay winked seductively.
Even after all this time, Jay knew how to make her heart, just like when they dance, swoon. "I think we just have to get our sea legs," Jay joked.
The music slowed down to a casual waltz. Jay wrapped his arms around Nyas waist. Nya linked her arms around Jays neck pulling him closer to her.
They swayed slowly to the music. "What was it like?" Nya asked in a hushed tone. "What was what like?" Jay replied. "The team, without me?" Nya questioned. This very thought had been on her mind but she hadn't been compelled to ask until now.
Jay bit his lip trying to find a way to explain things without speaking for the others. "Well we were a mess. Well I think I can speak for everyone saying that we're nothing without you," Jay confessed. Nyas cheeks were dusted a light shade of pink. "Personally, I don't think I handled it the best to be honest," Jay admitted. Nya shrugged. "What do you mean?" Nya asked. Jay sighed. "I hadn't really excepted you being gone, not really anyway. I was cold and not really nice if you know what I mean. I got mad at Kai when I shouldn't have," Jay recoiled at the memory. "I mean we're cool now but I still think that fight took a toll on our friendship so," Jay trailed off. Nya, in fear of spoiling the mood, smiled at him.
"Glad to know you care though," Nya laughed. Jay grimaced. "I think care is an understatement," Jay commented.
Jay once again twirled Nya as the melody started picking up more of a rhythm.
Nya giggled when Jay lifted her, her dress swirled around her waist gracefully.
"I wish things could stay like this forever," Nya confided. Jay smirked softly. "But we're not that lucky," Nya sighed. "I think I'm pretty lucky," Jay smiled before kissing Nya gently on her lips. Nya melted into their kiss. The moment felt eternal and perfect.
Present...
A tear trickled down Nyas cheek. The memory was bitter sweet. She wiped the tear from her face mournfully. "I will find you Jay," Nya sniffed. "You never gave up on me. I'm not ever going to give up on you," Nya said indefinitely. "Just hang on a little longer."
