In the silence of night, when the world is still,
I hear the faint echoes of dreams unfulfilled.
A dial tone rings softly, a signal so clear,
Reminding me gently of the words you won't hear.
I pick up the receiver, hoping to find,
The laughter, the stories that once intertwined.
But the line is a ghost, a whisper of fate,
Each tone a reminder of love turned to wait.
We used to connect with a touch of a hand,
Now I'm lost in the static, the distance we've spanned.
Every ring is a memory, a flicker of light,
But the silence that follows fills my heart with fright.
Do you hear the dial tones when you're far away?
Do they call you to think of the words left to say?
I wish I could bridge the gap with my voice,
To turn back the clock and reclaim our choice.
But life's not a phone call we can rewind,
And the signals of love can be hard to find.
So I sit in the quiet, with thoughts of the past,
Hoping these dial tones will someday fade fast.
Yet every soft beep, every tone that I hear,
Reminds me of moments that I hold so dear.
For love, like a message, can linger and roam,
Even when silence fills the spaces we've known.
So I'll cherish the echoes, each tone like a kiss,
A promise that someday, we'll find what we miss.
And though the lines may be tangled, the distance may grow,
You'll always be near me, in the dial tones that flow.
