I never should have let you go,
But I was blind and didn't know.
The way your heart beat next to mine
Was something rare, a love divine.
I thought the distance wouldn't last,
That time would heal and fade the past.
But now the echoes of your name
Are wrapped in guilt, laced with shame.
I see you in the quiet air,
A shadow passing everywhere.
I hear you in the songs we knew,
Melodies that speak of you.
I never should have turned away,
Left words unsaid, let love decay.
Now every memory pulls me down,
A weight that keeps me on the ground.
What we had was fragile, true,
A fire burning bright and new.
But fear stepped in, I lost my way,
And let the light just fade to gray.
Now here I stand, with empty hands,
No longer part of your life's plans.
Regret sits heavy in my chest,
For losing you when we were best.
I never should have let you go,
And now it's something I can't outgrow.
A lesson learned, too late to mend—
The love I lost, my closest friend.
