The Elementals II: Knit of Fate

My father seemed to hesitate at first and with one glance at my mom, he started.

                My mom and dad were working in a medical company and were involved in testing of drugs in genetic level. If I’m in my usual ordinary self, I would be asking more about this job of them, how priveledge I am to be son of such geniuses but the sad thing is, I am not.

                Their company is actually an E-world company based in mortal world. My father met this Engr. Viento, who’s also a genetic engineer with her husband, my dad’s bestfriend a mortal. Since Mr. and Mrs. Viento are in good terms with my mom and dad and they spent a lot of times together, it’s inevitable for some E-thing to happen without any reaction from my dad though his bestfriend; a complete skeptic just shrugged anything different away.

                It started from weird dressed people visiting the company, Mrs. Viento appearing and disappearing questionably and once, suddenly disappeared in front of my father’s eyes, thinking that no one is around. And when my father asked about it, she told him about E-world. Doubtful at first but as soon as my father saw her performing her abilities, he’s left dumbfounded and when my father asked if it’s alright to inform his wife about it, she said ‘yes’ as long as they will kept it a secret and Mr. Viento wouldn’t know about it or else some tricks of E-world will fell upon them. You know, mind tricks probably.

                They’ve been in the company for almost two years when my mom got pregnant. She knew about it when her baby is already two months old that’s why she’s left thinking, her son became contaminated by some E-things and a reason that made sense to explain my abilities to my mom. Coincidentally, Mrs. Viento is also pregnant that time and my dad doesn’t know what devil entered his mind and planned to have his child be the same, to have some E-abilities.

                He started researching on splicing DNA but the first problem he faced is how to get DNA of an E-being ‘coz you know you can’t just ask someone to give blood sample, hair sample or saliva. But one day, my mom and dad got invited to the Viento house and that’s when my dad got the chance to enter their bathroom and take a hair sample in the sink or wherever.

                So my dad’s plan started commencing. He started splicing the DNA with a baby rat’s but he’s unsuccessful and just when he was about to give up, my mom was eight month pregnant already, he studied the DNA again and that’s when he discovered the protein that helped in manipulating their respective elements.

                He separated this protein and injected it to a baby rat and he observed that the rat’s DNA is not altered but the protein attached and merged to its genes naturally. The protein was self-adapting.

                Mrs. Viento gave birth first to a male twin; her husband visits every day but doesn’t stay for long because he has to report to the company in regular basis as well as my dad but  my dad, so eager of his plans, manage to take blood from the new born babies. I don’t know how, but he did it.

                Yeah, I’m sorry. I apologized for what my dad did. I don’t know, maybe it’s just a typical reaction from seeing and knowing something bizarre, alien. When human take hold of an alien, what will they do? Will they just let it walk around our planet? NO. They’ll take it into labs and study them, killing them in the process.

                I cried when my dad told me this, how cruel can he be. I just feel so sorry. I was Engr. Mylene A. Viento’s son; I am one of the twins, my twin brother gone. I was a son of nation-called murderer, Bloodwind’s blood run in my veins.

                My brother’s missing because of this man in front of me, because of his desires, because of his dreams and self centeredness. He apologized to me and was crying, holding my hand between his’ but actions have been taken, and even Mother Nature can’t do anything about it. Though he didn’t killed the baby in the instant, the first few days of an E-baby is very delicate, it’s when the protein bond fully to the genes but my father took too much of it and almost drained the baby out and the baby started convulcing, he also took some from me but I survived.

                He knew his son may acquire the abilities but the training wouldn’t be enough and so he interchanged his son and me. And when the attack in the company happened, when Bloodwind and her husband escaped, they took their going weak baby and my father’s son. I was left in the hospital. I was left to this man in front of me for eighteen years and their son? Who knows where is he now.

                My dad hugged me so tight but I kept on crying but I just pushed him away and my mom broke down again, hearing what truly happened.

                Then suddenly the door opened and Jingjy came, “I’m sorry to disturb anything but, we need to take your son, Elly with us. Mr. and Mrs. Castor?”

                The word ‘son’ really hurt. I don’t know if you have speculated about this before and I will be lying if I will say I haven’t considered the thought of being adopted even just once in my life. But no matter how hard you prepare yourself for things as bad as this, it’s just really bad when it happens. Yeah, I was adopted, kidnapped actually and worse, my mom’s considered to be a killer. Wht are the odds of happening this to me? Like 1 out of thousand billions?

                You see, you don’t get the chance to read something when it’s just normal, average and just regularly happening ‘coz surely you wouldn’t want to read it anymore or it wouldn’t be worth publishing. But the likes of this, stories like mine, there’s just got to be something really odd, weird, extraordinary, and impossible about it that you kept on reading. Something a story has that keeps you interested and here it is.  Yes, it’s impossible but really? Why?

                My mom ran to my side and shooed Jingjy away, “You don’t take my son anywhere else without taking me!” my mom protested but the guards pulled her away and that’s when the ground became shaky followed by a loud explosion.

                My mom was thrown towards the guards who stumbled as we are shook. My father and Jingjy were caught off balanced. My mind is so preoccupied that I can’t steady on processing things and as everyone was busy steadying themselves, that’s when I ran outside the door and searched for some place to be left alone.
