He distributed a couple of photocopies, “The first one is the outline of our lessons, Physics; but I’ll be distributing the ones for E-classes during the scheduled time for your classes of which. The other one is the scope of your preliminary examination and I hope you’ll do some advance readings.” Advance readings... I’ve had enough of advance reading command for today...
“So how are you? I’ve heard some of you graduated from the same school that I’ve been.” Sir Miel asked.
I poked Nicolei and she immediately understood, “Most of us graduated in the same secondary school where our Physics teacher was his schoolmate. Isn’t it a touch of fate?” she said as the people in the front row (Kathe, Roxy, Katy and Lourette) had a sort of murmur-talk with our professor who giggles at each pause of what they’re saying.
“By the way, I’ve heard that this section had a really nice reputation out there last year? Am I right?”
“Not all of us, Sir.” People of the second half of the class said in unison.
“Oh,” He stood up and walked back and forth on the platform where he towered, really-really towered among us. Two feet more and he’s gonna have a nice lump on his head for head butting the cemented ceiling. “Is Mr. Elly Castor around?”
And they all looked at me in chorus. I felt like melting on my seat or apparating as far as I can and leave this class. I’m afraid of this professor actually. He’s got all the qualities of a material terror professor for me. My heart trembles whenever a professor talks to me, how much more if he’s the one I have to talk with?!
I raised my hand, ‘coz I think that’s the smartest thing to do when Sir Miel immediately smiled and said, “How’s the feeling?”
“Fe... Fee... Feeling? Feeling of what professor?” I asked like my tongue seems to do 360-degree turns as if distorting what I would like to say.
“Of being like a heeeero? You saved us all last year actually when we, teachers, are out.” He said as he went closer in front of me, “Almost all of the professors were having a conference in the higher engineering domain that time and it so happens Ms. Agby is still here. Nobody, as young as you are, as young as all of you, has tried to stand against the five.”
“I-I was just saving a friend...” I felt sweating all over, “And I didn’t do it alone, I have all my friends with me that time.” I looked around and caught smiles on their faces.
I thought Mr. Miel’s gonna say more but I felt relief when he retreated back to his seat. I was glad that the flow of the talk changed, they were now talking about their previous physics classes way back high school to how’s college at School of Engineering to some personal stuffs about Mr. Miel like family, love life, educational background, address???, yeah, I heard on asked about it. But why?
The session ended like Mr. Miel is already an old-friend to the class, well for me, I’m trying to contain the fear I have inside as well as my trembling hands away from Nicolei or Clarice’s stare.
“I’m expecting good results from your E-courses with me. Gooodbye.” And he left, I was right back then, his hips sway a little as he walks. Yes everyone’s hips sways as he walks, let’s say, his is a little swaying more than usual.
And now the other professors...
It was not long when our next professor came in. She was already waiting outside before Mr. Miel went out. Her shoulder length wavy hair is greyish-white from old age and her eyes are covered by shiny clear spectacles with golden yellow frame. Her face is sweet though slightly covered with wrinkles. She looks tame enough, calm and really gentle.
