WE RESUME IN BED WITH Y/N
...WHAT?
When I wake up, I begin to think that I passed away. I see nothing for a second, before I see a blinding white, making me think I'm in some sort of afterlife. When my eyes finally begin to work again, I look around, frantically, and confused. I'm in the hospital on the north end of the Last City, the one farthest north, as there are a bunch of them.
I can recognize it fast because of the view. When I look out of the window, I can see my stand as a speck on top of the wall. Looking to my left, my nightstand is covered in "get well soon" cards, same with the right, and I can... barely move... In fact, I just stop trying to move as I stare out the window.
Y/N: Mmmph... ugh... h-hello... *cough, cough, cough*
Words can't contain just how much I cough, and once I finally stop, I'm unable to breathe, similar to how it feels when I wake up in the morning. I knew I was unwell before, but I FUCKING... HATE IT... WHEN MY OWN BODY... ACTS UP LIKE THIS... WHAT THE HELL?!
I remember talking to a group of raider guardians from different planets, and then... I trailed off. I blacked out; I must have; that's what got me here! I sit up slowly, still feeling no movement coming from my legs. I can feel a sense of anxiety, worry, something I haven't felt in years begin to kick in.
I lift the blanket as best as I can with my limited strength, then begin to hit my legs. I feel nothing, not a single sensation other than a light tap, despite me punching my thigh as hard as I can. There's no doubt about it that I might be paralyzed, but I refuse to believe it until a doctor finds me.
The cancer got to my spine... it got to my spine...
It got to my spine... it got to my spine...
I drop my head back on the pillow in defeat, my world starting to spiral into darkness once I fully wake up. My arms aren't as strong as they used to be, and even worse, my legs...
I reach for the remote to call the nurse, but it's just out of reach. I reach even further, causing the IV to jerk around, making my wrist hurt. I finally get a hold of it, spamming the button over and over again. I'm not stopping until I see someone enter the room.
Nurse: I know, I know! Relax... I'm here-OH! You're awake!
Y/N: What... happened...
Nurse: I'm calling the nearest doctor now, and they will explain everything. There's quite a lot to take in, but... they can explain it the best. Y/N L/N, your cancer... i-it's... spreading.
Y/N: I see...
The doctor walks in next, with a glowing lab coat and spectacles similar to mine, adjusting them to profile my face, making sure it is THE Y/N. It's a tall, skinny being, but I am unable to distinguish their gender, so I need to be exceptionally careful.
Ira: Y/N, I am Doctor Ira.
Y/N: Nice to meet you, Ira... So, what do we get here? Don't beat around the bush.
Ira: Your cancer has spread again. We thought your... treatments a year prior would halt the spread, allowing you a safe year before you... you know...
Y/N: Yes, of course, doc. It got to my spine, didn't it?
Ira: It was only a matter of time before your metabolism burned through. You were due back next week, but... we made a miscalculation, and it spread faster than we thought. Nobody could've predicted it, nobody could...
Y/N: I told you-
Ira: Yes, you told me. It went to your spine, your cancer invaded that area and gave you exceptional nerve damage, and once it tapped into your spine, that was it. We administered the treatment, but after two more weeks of testing, we weren't quick enough.
