I quickly stood from the rock, putting my helmet on and letting Gaia put my pulse rifle in my hands for me. Anytime I lift my hand off the pulse rifle, squeezing my fist, it begins to flame. My powers that I've gained from the Traveler are not only unstable, but uncontrollable.
I heard the sound of a woosh or something but it was much more quiet, followed by some pebbles tumbling beside me. There's a piece of my peripherals that is a little blurrier than the rest. I reach out with my hand, touching something hard.
???: Hehe... heh...
The invisible thing was actually just a guardian. I realized it fast when the hunter started giggling at me. I gave it a good shove and that canceled out their invisibility, whilst knocking them back. They had to roll and catch themselves on their feet. Oh, hey, I recognize that armor!
Y/N: Chase?
Chase: Heyyy blueberry! You know, this place isn't that safe for new lights.
Y/N: It was on Ikora's orders... I was tasked with meditating here to help find myself. The Seclusion is... well...
Chase: It's crazy... I come here when I'm missing a certain someone. It helps me cope and remember some of the better times of my life...
Y/N: Who? You don't have to tell me, actually-
Chase: Y/N, you probably heard of him. He was uhh... a boot shiner; he led the Guardian Apparel place that was taken over by Tess Everis.
Y/N: Oh, I met Tess... She's very talented.
Chase: She ain't him, though.
Y/N: Probably not...
Chase: So... what are you here for? It wasn't just a self-exploration quest, was it?
Y/N: Well... I wanted to try and find out who I was... yes... but also strengthen my connection to the Traveler. What better place to meditate then... here?
Chase: Uh-huh, right in the heart. You're smart for a bloob...
Y/N, how does a hunter not even recognize you? Good question, Y/N, thanks, Y/N. A helmet does wonders and last time I checked, I wasn't in a wheelchair. If you're a seasoned guardian or if you've been one for about a day... like me... you would know a helmet not only muffles your real voice, but the voice that comes out of your helmet is an awful, radio quality. Mine is even worse because Ada didn't have many audio materials left over, so I wouldn't be surprised if she used an old headset microphone or something.
In other words, I'm sure my microphone on my helmet sounds like crap, or it flat out doesn't work at all. Gaia said during the building phase that it sounded like an old microphone, a ribbon or something from before even the television was invented.
Chase: You got a name? Considering Doink and I keep finding ya... might as well get used to ya...
Y/N: Alright... I'm done... I'm sorry, Chase.
I'm done with these sensations of imposter syndrome. In fact, I'm so done with them that I'm not going to hold onto this any longer. She may suspect I'm a figment of the Seclusion at first, but I need to do this. My heart starts beating out of my chest as I loosen my helmet, the light hiss it makes when I pull it off. The meditation made me calm and gave me some confidence that I just can't waste.
I revealed my face when I looked up...
*THUD!*
They say attachments make guardians vulnerable, and so yes, I have seen it firsthand now. Chase saw my face, her expression was blank under her helmet most likely, but then she went stiff, falling backward. She fainted, landing square on her back. Doink quickly transmats out and goes to revive her.
