The voice was June, the robot woman with the wooden leg. She sees me and her single eye grows wide at the sight of me. She's holding her torso as it looks to be ripped open by something... or someone... She was the only person to show me any form of hospitality, so I have to repay the favor if I can.

June: Y-y-y-yo... you...

Me: Me? What... happened?

Her torso sparks, nearly lighting the leaves on fire around her. Regardless of her groaning and static, I grip onto her shoulders which burn my fingers. She's overheating, which makes me suspect... a robot must have a cooling system... and it must be damaged... I carry her to a tree stump next to some broken fence adjacent to the cabin, propping her up and allowing her to rest more.

June: H-h-h-hhh... shhh... He-

She's interrupted when she sparks again, then shorts out. I would help her, but I don't know the first thing about treating robots... if... they can even be treated... Looking down at her wooden leg, I can see it was made of some of the darkness trees, which explains why it was so dark. It starts to wiggle, roots and tendrils growing out of it to climb up her leg.

I'm guessing without any form of essence to allow the plague to calm, it's going to consume her if I don't do something. In the back of my mind, I have to think about how I can help her if I can.

June: D-doc... n-no...

Me: Doctor... No... Did he do this?

Her robotic jaw quivers as she nods her head to the best of her abilities. She grips my one arm, hurting me, not allowing me to leave. She's preventing me from helping her...

Me: Essence... y-you need it?

June: T-t-t... *Static* Too... late...

Me: June, with essence-

June: TOO... LLLLL-LLLLL-...

*POP!*

I watch her torso spark once more, her insides popping, sparking, and beginning to catch fire. Her eye and what's left of her mouth both shut off, and as the insides begin to burn, the leg flares out. The plagued leg covers the burning insides, and even erects a new arm as it continues to consume her. I sit back in wonder, but then I get up and back away once I realize... it could be creating a new living being entirely.

I take out my makeshift club and watch as the plague begins to reanimate her body. The tendrils cover the fiery sparks, putting them out. Her head, her eyes... what glowed a peaceful green was now a sinister shade of that same dark gold I've seen before... She starts to lumber towards me, her robotic leg now limping. She doesn't speak, but her voice box stutters the same thing she said before... corruption...

June: L-L-L...

Me: June...

It's not June. As soon as she lunges for me, I am able to spin out of the way. If I don't defend myself from this... THING... I will share my grave with June. Although I may have just met her, she would be the only friendly face I see for a long... long... time... I swing the table leg around, the metal sparking against what's left of her frame as it knocks her into the ground.

*WHACK!*

She hits the floor, and her metal limbs buckle as more of the plague begins to take over, learning to control her body. If I don't kill her, fry the robot or somehow relieve her body of the darkness, then it will kill me and many others. As it tries to get up, formerly June getting on her knees, I reel in for another hit. I swing my table leg once more, knocking scraps off her head.
