Chapter 40: By a Hair

I don't quite know how to word this other than saying exactly what I did. I'm not quite good at the sly language, or at least maybe I never was. I took Ada-1 up on that faster date option and she got to experience something she never could. See, she was never hot for any guardian that would come across her, simply because they all share a certain mentality where they put the city first.

She really liked how I didn't know what I was doing. It was pretty fun actually, but I didn't really know what she meant by a faster option until... She took me back to her living quarters. I lift her chin up again to look in her eyes. Her last delivery was shaky, which had me worried that she might be trying to cry.

Ada: Yes, well that's because you didn't know any better...

Y/N: Maybe... and if that's the case, it's good on you. I really want us to be something more.

Ada: I can't... Y/N.

Y/N: Okay... I'll stop trying to chase it. I was about to say something corny like, "nobody ever made me feel like this before", then I realized that... well... you're right, I just don't know anything or hardly anyone. Maybe we can come back to this when I finally catch my bearings?

Ada: I can't promise that. When things like this don't work out I tend to drop them completely. You shouldn't be focusing on me with the roles you already have as a guardian. I won't hold anything against you either for forgetting. It's okay...

I smirk at her and I can tell she wants to smirk at me. We both hug it out and accept that what we want might not actually work out. There are too many forces acting on us. I'm unaware of most things in this new world. In other words, I don't know hardly anything. She can't be exclusive to only me when she has a job, a role that's key to assisting us guardians.
