Chapter 28🪷

Kihyun thrashes his room, throwing everything within his reach. He was enraged when he heard that his father had decided to conduct a competition to choose the next head alpha. He thinks it is unfair. He has been preparing all his life to succeed his father only for his efforts to be cast aside. 

Hira steps inside his room, a worried look on her face. Kihyun's room is a battleground, with almost everything broken and ruined. "Kihyun," she calls him softly. "Calm down. Don't you think that this competition will be to your advantage? You can show the whole pack that you deserve to be the next head alpha by defeating your opponents. That way, they would never question why you're the next head alpha and not Jungkook." Hira tries to pacify her son.

Kihyun annoyingly chuckles at her. "Jungkook? Even though he's older than me, he doesn't stand a chance. He wouldn't even dare to compete. He's useless! Don't give me that excuse, mother. Your husband is doing this to piss me off. I'm going to purge every wolf who is foolish enough to compete against me! Father will be the laughing stock of this pack!" Kihyun yells, his eyes blazing red with rage.

"Do it, show your father that no one in this pack is your equal. Show him that you are the only one who deserves to be the next head alpha. For now, use one of the guest rooms. I'll order the helpers to clean this room." Hira leaves Kihyun's room and heads to Junseo's office.

She knocks and enters the head alpha's office. Junseo boredly glances at her, then resumes reading the documents in his hand. 

Not waiting for the invitation she knew she wouldn't get from her husband, Hira sits in front of his desk. "You always spend time in this office. You're not just a head alpha, you're also a father and a husband-my husband. Don't you think you’ve been neglecting us? You hardly leave this office," she complains, but the alpha continues to ignore her. "And why did you go to Jungkook's wedding and brush aside Kihyun's? What would our pack mates say? Kihyun is the next head alpha but you ignored his special day."

Junseo pauses briefly and looks up to meet Hira's gaze. "Kihyun is not yet the next head alpha. He has to prove himself worthy of that position. He has to earn it. I already married you, so don't expect things I couldn't give you. I told you from the very beginning that my heart only belongs to Harin."

"Is that why you're favoring Harin's son over mine?" 

"Favoring?! Seriously, Hira?! I neglected my firstborn while grooming your son to be my heir but I realized my mistake. Kihyun's arrogance will be the downfall of Obsidian," Junseo responds, voice cutting sharply across the confines of the room.

"Our son, Junseo! You groomed Kihyun because he is more deserving than Jungkook! The head alpha position belongs to Kihyun. It's his birthright as your son," Hira insists, her voice raising slightly.

Junseo slams his fist on his desk, causing the papers to scatter all over the place. Hira is startled, nervously gulping. "Birthright?!" The head alpha scoffs. "What birthright are you babbling about? The only reason I trained him to be the next head alpha was because Jungkook's wolf is dormant. Jungkook is my firstborn and the rightful heir. You are spoiling your son so much that his behavior has become rotten,” he said, shaking his head in disappointment. "You and Harin are very different. It shows in your upbringing of Kihyun. You did not teach him how to be a decent person. He grew up to be an arrogant and greedy alpha. You should be grateful that I'm allowing him to participate in the head alpha competition. Leave now and don't ever bring up Kihyun being the rightful heir. Let him prove himself." 

Hira bristles at Junseo's words. She wants to scream at her husband. It hurts her deeply to be compared to her twin. She thought that when Harin died, she would finally be free from her shadow, but alas! Junseo keeps reminding her that she would never surpass Harin. In Junseo's eyes and heart, she will always be inferior to her late twin.
