An Unexpected Encounter with the Past

I stared at the girl, activating my Appraisal skill.

> Name: Liza
Level: 40
Element: Ice Magic
Previous Identity: Kaede Miyuki

My eyes widened instantly.

Kaede…?
No way. Could it really be her? The girl from my previous life?

Without a second thought, I rushed after her. She had already started walking away. I couldn’t let this chance slip by.

"Kaede!" I called out.

But before I could reach her, two guards stepped in and blocked my path.

"Stop! Where do you think you’re going? You can’t just approach Princess Liza like that!" one of them barked.

"I just want to ask her something… Please, just a moment," I said politely.

The guard shoved me back roughly.

"Don't bother the princess again! A commoner like you has no right to be near her!"

They walked away, escorting her further from me. But just before disappearing, I caught Liza glancing back.

> Did… someone just call me by that name?
Kaede…? But… that was in the past…
— Liza thought.

I clenched my teeth. Damn those stuck-up guards!

But if she really is Kaede… then that means she reincarnated into this world too.
I have to talk to her.
Tomorrow—I’ll find a way to speak with her, no matter what.

As I was lost in thought, a loud announcement rang through the air.

> “All accepted students, please gather in the main hall.”

I quickly made my way there. A staff member stood at the front, holding a wooden board with notices.

"Today we will assign class placements. Based on your entrance exam results, students will be divided into three ranks: Class S, A, and B. Those who excelled will enter Class S, average students will be placed in Class A, and the less capable will be assigned to Class B."

My name was called.

I had been placed in Class S.

“Eh? Seriously? Well... I kinda expected it.”

Whispers started to ripple around me.

> "Why is a commoner placed in Class S?"
"Even if she's a nobody, her magic is insane."
"Unbelievable… trash like her in Class S?"

I heard every word clearly. Still, I pretended not to care. Whatever.

Afterward, we received our school uniforms: a dark-colored long blazer, a white collared shirt, a brown plaid skirt, and a robe. Not bad.

We were then instructed to head to our respective dorms. I went to retrieve the belongings I had left under the tree earlier. Thankfully, nothing was stolen—though honestly, who would want to steal my stuff anyway?

I checked my bag—just in case someone had taken my underwear.
Whew. Still there.
Sad though... I didn’t have a wagon to carry my things, so I had to leave them outside.
Ugh.

I was already getting drowsy. I just wanted to sleep.

When I arrived in front of the dorm building, I was speechless.
The Western-style architecture was enormous—classy and majestic.

“Whoa… this place is pretty luxurious.”

Just as I was about to enter, a middle-aged woman—probably the dorm manager—stopped me.
