A Princess’s Troublesome Morning

That morning, while I was still fast asleep, I felt someone gently shaking me. Drowsily, I opened my eyes—and froze.

A row of young women dressed in black-and-white uniforms stood lined up inside my room.

“Avrora-sama, are you awake?” one of them asked politely.

“UWAAAH!” I screamed, sitting up in a panic. “W-What are you all doing in my room?!”

“We apologize, Avrora-sama,” one maid answered with a bow. “We were ordered by Her Majesty the Queen to assist you with your morning bath. The princess’s public introduction ceremony will begin shortly.”

I stared blankly at them.
Seriously? I just woke up!

“I’m still sleepy... Can’t we do this later? You can all leave for now.”

But they didn’t move.

“I’m sorry, Avrora-sama,” said another maid, “but this is a direct order from Her Majesty. If we fail our duty, she’ll punish us all. Forgive us—but we must insist.”

“Ehhh?! Wait—!”

Before I could protest any further, they whisked me away to the bathroom. What a pain.

They bathed me all over again. I couldn’t help but giggle and squirm—it tickled!
Ugh, this is so embarrassing!

Once the bath was done, they dressed me in an extravagant gown and began applying makeup. By the time they finished, I felt like a well-decorated corpse.

“We're done, Avrora-sama. Please excuse us now,” one maid said with a graceful bow.

I weakly replied, “Yes... thank you.”

Thud!

I collapsed back onto the bed.
So tired…

But my peace didn’t last.

“Avrora-sama, the ceremony is about to begin. The King and Queen are waiting.”

With great reluctance, I got up.
“Alright…” I muttered, dragging my feet.

Did I mention how annoying this all is? I just wanted more sleep!

When I arrived at the royal balcony, lines of guards and soldiers were already in position. I was told to wait until my name was called.

The King would speak first.

Haaah… I sighed deeply.

King Aldric’s voice boomed across the plaza.

“My beloved citizens! On this glorious day, allow me to introduce to you someone long lost—my daughter, Princess Avrora!”

The maids gestured for me to step forward.

I walked up to the high balcony and looked out—

Wha… Why are there so many people?!

The crowd erupted into cheers. I froze.

“Say something, dear,” my mother whispered.

Oh no. I’ve never spoken in front of so many people before!

I stepped forward, nervously clearing my throat.

“H-Hello everyone… I’m Avrora. I’m… the long-lost princess. When I was a baby, I was taken by someone… and nearly lost my life. But somehow, I survived… and now I’ve returned to my family. T-Thank you… ahaha…”

The crowd roared with excitement.

What’s with this energy?! Why are they so into this?!
