Rebellion in the Kingdom
After school, Leon gathered all of us at his residence.
Liza, Alden, Zen, and I were already seated in the living room, waiting for an explanation. A tense atmosphere blanketed the room as Leon looked at me seriously.
“Avrora, tell us what happened that night,” he said.
I began to recount everything. Their expressions gradually shifted—shock, concern, even anger.
“Oh my god… Avrora, I’m so glad you’re safe,” Liza said with relief.
Alden stroked his chin, deep in thought. “So that strange sound I heard that night… someone was eavesdropping on us.”
“Who was it?” Zen asked sharply.
Liza narrowed her eyes, touching her lips. “Cleve? He really hates you, Avrora. It wouldn’t be surprising if he was secretly following you yesterday.”
Leon interjected, “That’s highly possible. This morning, Avrora and I saw someone matching the culprit’s description. He was standing behind the Bishop from the Valderland Royal Church, talking with Cleve. But… I don’t have solid proof, just a hunch.”
I spoke up firmly. “It’s not just a hunch. I’m certain. He’s the one. I saw it.”
Leon looked confused. “What do you mean?”
I expected that question. Leon isn’t a reincarnator like us—he can’t see status or levels.
“I have the ability to assess a person’s status… Sorry I didn’t mention it until now.”
Leon sighed. “You always manage to surprise me, Avrora. But… why didn’t you tell me this morning?”
“I wanted to wait until everyone was gathered. And… I didn’t want you to worry.”
Alden clenched his fists. “Then it’s settled. Cleve is the mastermind. All we need now is evidence to bring him down.”
But before we could discuss further, two of Leon’s guards rushed in, looking pale.
“Your Highness, urgent news!” one of them said. “There’s a rebellion in the capital! Prince Loki is attempting to seize the throne by force. The King is in danger!”
Leon froze. “What did you say…? My brother is rebelling?”
“It’s true, Your Highness. Reports from the royal army confirmed it. We must return immediately!”
Leon gritted his teeth. What is my brother thinking? Could he really betray Father like this?
“Ready my horse, armor, and sword. I’m leaving immediately!” he commanded.
“At once, Your Highness!” the guards rushed out.
I turned to Leon, panic rising in my voice. “Leon… is it true?”
Leon looked at me, his eyes heavy with burden. “I’m sorry, Avrora… I have to go now, or I’ll be too late to save Father and Mother.”
I grabbed his shoulder, serious. “Let me come with you. I’ll help.”
Leon shook his head. “Sorry. I can’t involve you in this.”
My voice rose. “I want to save Mother too!”
Leon paused, confused. “What do you mean?”
Damn, I slipped up.
“There’s no time to explain. We have to go—now!”
