chapter twenty one

A few days later

POV Suki

I glance at the biggest mess ever in my room as I get dressed for work

I haven't packed a single thing for the trip yet and it's only in two days

I pull and twist my hair and I pin it with a large claw, the few layer strands left on my forehead frame the shape of my face perfectly

I put on a gray tailored short with a stripped yellow and white oversized shirt, I add a black corset belt and black boots with high heels

I add a black pair of sunnies to hide my misery cause I've been messing up with my sleeping schedule cause of the wedding in the Hamptons and I look terribly exhausted, makeup on or not

I glance at my room one last time, mentally reminding myself to pack my bags when I'll be back home

I see Alessio on his way to the building and he is holding a cup of coffee and a cup of matcha in each hand

I smile immediately when I see that he brought me a matcha when I was actually thinking about getting him some coffee

" Buon Giorno!!! " I say with excitement behind him

He turns around and smiles at me when he notices me

" I didn't see you coming " he says

" Is that for me? " I ask

" Obviously..." He says as he hands me the cup

" How sweet ! "

He frowns as he looks at me

" Cara, I'm not sure you're sleeping well "

I smile tenderly at him

Even under tons of concealer Alessio will always notice when I'm tired

" I will sleep well when I'm done with this wedding "

" Don't be too hard on yourself " he says as we walk together towards the entrance door

" Says the one who always kills himself at work like a psychopath when he has something to get done "

" I work hard so you won't have to "

I laugh softly

" If you were really working for me, you wouldn't be this strict all the time "

" Well...this is not going to change any time soon " he says with a lopsided smile

" You're not cool " I say as I hit him with my elbow gently

We pass the reception and I can feel everyone's gaze on us

It's happen everytime we walk in together

I know they're suspicious but they won't say anything yet

Me and Alessio were always close cause we work together most of the time and I'm sure they were always looking at us when we come to the office at the same time

But I've been feeling it more now since we are actually getting closer for real

The day started with a long meeting, then phone calls after phone calls, the stress in the office was almost palpable

We used to organize big events before, but somehow we are all scared not to screw up this one

If we succeed, it's gonna open doors for us for bigger and bigger opportunities in the future

Just like the palmer's ball and Bellatia's wedding ceremony had opened so many doors for our small company three years ago

And I'm sure this billionaire's son wedding will do the same
