Seungkwan was stirring his tea, enjoying the daily silence in his apartment, when a knock at the door broke the peace. He glanced at the clock. It was early for any visitors he knew, so It must be Hansol, who went for Jogging .
He opened the door to see his mother standing there,'HIS MOTHER!',
her eyes heavy with a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite place. They stood in silence for a moment, each absorbing the sight of the other. She looked a little older, more tired than he remembered.“Seungkwan,” she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Mom,” he replied, stepping aside to let her in. “Please, come in.”
She glanced around his small, apartment with a critical eye, taking in the clutter of baby toys scattered across the floor and the faint smell of baby powder lingering in the air. They sat across from each other at his small kitchen table, the silence stretching between them.
“You look… thinner,” she said finally, breaking the quiet. “Are you eating well?”
Seungkwan shrugged, a little defensive. “I’m fine, Mom. Really. How’s everyone back home?”
She looked down at her hands, twisting her fingers together. “Everyone? They’re… busy trying to ignore the whispers,” she said, her voice sharpening. “The neighbors, people in town—they haven’t stopped talking since you left. Do you know what it’s been like? People pointing fingers, gossiping like we’re some scandal.”
Seungkwan’s heart sank. He’d left home three years ago to avoid exactly this, to keep his family from facing the shame and judgment of the small, tight-knit community in Jeju. He never wanted them to suffer.
“Mom, I… I didn’t want this for you,” he said quietly. “That’s why I left. I thought… if I wasn’t there, people would just… forget.”
His mother’s expression hardened, her voice trembling with anger. “Forget? Do you think it’s that easy? Do you know how many nights I lay awake, wondering where you were, if you were safe, if you even remembered your family?”
“I was just trying to protect you all,” Seungkwan said, his voice pleading. “I couldn’t stand the thought of people talking behind your backs. I thought if I stayed away, things would be easier for you, for Dad, for my sisters.”
“But you didn’t think about what you were leaving behind, did you?” she demanded, her voice cracking. “Running away… raising a child by yourself? Was that your idea of protecting us?”
“I had no choice, Mom,” he whispered, his eyes shining with tears. “When I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t know what to do. I was scared. I thought… I thought you’d all hate me, and I didn’t want my child to feel like a mistake. I thought if I just disappeared… it would be easier for everyone.”
His mother’s eyes softened, but her gaze held the weight of years of worry and heartbreak. “Do you know how many times I imagined what my grandchild would look like? Wondered if they would have your eyes or your laugh? You took that chance from me, Seungkwan.”
Seungkwan’s throat tightened as guilt washed over him. “I… I’m so sorry, Mom. I thought I was doing the right thing, sparing you all this. But maybe I was just being selfish. I didn’t know what else to do.”
She reached across the table and took his hand, her grip firm but warm. “You’re my son, Seungkwan. My love for you didn’t disappear because you made a mistake. I just… I just wish you had trusted me enough to tell me.”
He looked down, his voice barely a whisper. “I wanted to… so many times. I just didn’t know how. But… I want you to meet her, Mom. Your grandchild.”
He stand up and walked out of kitchen ,wiping the tears which caught at eyes,he ain't gonna let them slip, when he stumbled over Hansol.
Who were standing there for god knows how much time..
Seungkwan preferred to not look him in eyes and called out his mother,"this way"
She nodded, her eyes filled with a mixture of anticipation and sorrow. Seungkwan led her into a bedroom where a Haeun lay sleeping, a gentle rise and fall to her chest. His mother’s expression softened as she took in the sight, reaching out to touch the tiny hand peeking out from under the blanket.
“She… perfect,” she murmured, a tear slipping down her cheek.
Seungkwan smiled, relief flooding his heart. “I wanted to tell you that every day. I wanted to share this with you, Mom. I know I messed up, but… .”
His mother looked at him, her eyes filled with love. “We always were here together, Seungkwan. No matter what. You don’t have to do this alone.”
-
Hansol were sitting on ground infront of his mother, head bowed down as he gave long apology speech."So you were that guy?" She asked hands folded on heer chest.
"Yes,and I genuinely apologize fore my behaviour." He said again.
Seungkwan were sitting on Sofa ,Haeun besides him sipping her Strawberry milkshake again.
"Don't believe him,Mom, I never gonna get back with him, stop persuing my mother you asshole! .." Seungkwan started.
" Ohh,then why he staying here?I can see his bag.." His Mother chuckled pointing at luggage.
