Chapter 1

The amazing sun shinning through my window alerted me that I must have slept in. Even though I couldn't leave the house, I woke up bright and early every morning. This one morning though was a Saturday, when I usually wake up extra early to sneak outside and see the sun rise. Those plans were crushed though. Sluggishly I pulled myself out of bed and washed my face. My room was the attic and the only room that had a bathroom off of it. After washing my face and teeth, I went back into my room to find clothes. I went to reach of my normal jeans and a t-shirt, that my mother thought it help make me less noticeable, but stopped when I saw the dress. It usually just sits in my closet, but for some reason I had the urge to wear it. So I through on the beautiful and summery strap less dress and a pair of flats.

After being fully dress, I skipped down the two flights of stairs that separate my room from the rest of the house. I went right to the kitchen and started humming and singing to myself as I began to cook breakfast for everyone. Everything was peaceful, but suddenly the front door opening crashing my mood. "Mike, if that's truly how you feel, then you should do it." John said talking to the Alpha. I jumped behind the counter, hiding myself from the Alpha. My heart was hammering in my chest faster and faster. Never had I've been this close to being discovered. I've had my share of close calls but never had I had to hide behind the counter. "I truly feel that handing the pack to them is for the best. I trust him like a son, and I can't be running the pack anymore." Their conversation interested me, even though I probably should have been paying more attention to hiding. "John, I think that mate of yours, left the stove on." I cringed forgetting that I had eggs cooking. "Oh, yes. What am I going to do with her?" John went along fully knowing it was me. He moved to where I was hiding to shut off the stove. He raised his eyebrow at me before looking up remembering the Alpha. "Oh, but yes. You should hand the pack over if that's how you feel." John tried to sound collective, but you can hear the panic in his voice. "Are you okay?" "Yeah, I'm fine. Just worried about that mate of mine."

"Yes, those mates enjoy tormenting us. I'm going to call Danny and tell him. He will want to meet you and your family tonight before we tell the pack tomorrow." The Alpha said before walking towards the door. "Okay, we will be ready. He can come anytime." "Great, oh and John I think those daughters brought a cat in again. All I can hear is a pounding heart." John didn't say anything as the man walked out of the house and down then drive way to his car. I didn't dare move until I herd the engine come to life and speed down the road.

I jumped from my hiding spot to be met with John's glare. "Hehehe...do you want breakfast?" I asked with fake laughter. "Ashlynn, you gave me a heart attack. If he found you he would have thought you were a rouge." John scolded. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you weren't home and I was going to make breakfast." I gave him a sheepish grin. "It's fine, but yes I'll have breakfast." He has never been hard on me so it wasn't a surprise that he wasn't really mad. So I went back to cooking breakfast. In no time Scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, fresh fruit, hash browns and blueberry muffins filled the table. It only took an hour and half and everyone including my mother was down stairs to eat.

I found my spot next to Tanner and as far away from my mother as I could get. Everyone dug in eating and talking. I didn't say much watching my food with my head down. My mother never like it for me to eat with the family. "So, I have big family news." John said silencing the chatter. "Ashlynn, could you get me a refill on coffee?" My mother asked trying to get me out of the room, obviously not thinking I needed to now the family news. In her eyes I wasn't part of the family, I was just a mut that lived in her house. I nodded and began getting from my seat and taking her glass to refill. I was walking into the other room when I heard my mother say, "Baby, why don't you tell us the news?" "I will, right when Ashlynn gets back."
