Chapter 30:
Brandon POV
“Hey chickie, guess what?” Elisa sang opening the door to the conference room. The silence in the room was heavy from Ashlynn’s fight with her grandfather, so the moment the happy voice of my mate floated into the room everyone turned to face her. Her red hair was pulled into a messy bun sitting on the top of her head, with her black rimmed glasses sitting at the edge of her noise. If I hadn’t already been mad at her, I would have been blown away by how beautiful she was. My wolf wouldn’t let that happen though, he had been pacing around my head for hours with anger that she just left without telling me. And now that she returned all smiley seemed to anger him more. I turned to face her, our eyes locking into an intense starring match. Neither of us dared to look away, nor did I make an effort to move closer to her. “Did you tell her yet?” Lauren chirped skipping up behind my mate. No one responded to her though. Elisa didn’t even bother to look away from our stare to acknowledge that she had spoken.
From behind me I heard that scarping of a chair against the tile floor and the rustling movements of Conner. “We can finish this meeting later.” He stated with no hesitation before grabbing Lauren’s hand and pulling her away from the conference room and to somewhere private for them to talk. Unlike Conner I wasn’t nearly that calm. I didn’t trust myself to get up and gently pull Elisa somewhere else for us to talk. I knew the moment I opened my mouth, I was going to snap and we were going to end up in a fight in the middle of everyone. That wasn’t what I wanted, so instead I kept my mouth shut and continued to stare at her. “Where have you guys been? I’ve been worried sick about you. The two of you just can’t leave that house without telling anyone where you’re going. It’s not safe.” Ashlynn reprimanded her, while giving her a tight hug. “Sorry mom, I didn’t realize I was under lock and key.” Elisa sarcastically snorted out. “Elisa.” Ashlynn gave her that warning look of seriousness and my little mate nodded her head in regret. “Sorry, we weren’t thinking. We had to get you something important.”
Ashlynn then pulled her into a tight hug, while whispering something into her ear. Elisa nodded in response at whatever Ashlynn had said to her. This time when she gazed at me, I tore away and turned my attention back to the paper work that sat in front of me on the table. The paper work wasn’t nearly as important as I began pretending, heck some of it was even just a Twix wrapper that I had eaten earlier. I just couldn’t calm my wolf down enough to speak to her.
We stilled hadn’t mated yet and that’s why he had been freaking out so much. Conner and Lauren hadn’t either, but Conner had always been better at controlling his wolf and actions then I was. Most times I was yelled at that I was too much like my father ready to fight at any given moment. Which was also one of the reasons, why Conner had been given beta over me. Our father’s convinced Danny that he was already to hot headed on his own, and to choose me would cause to much tension because we would always be ready to snap at any moment. Conner on the other hand, is cool headed and although he is about to be out of control, he hides it and doesn’t let anyone see his anger.
I could feel eyes boring into me, as I bluntly ignored my mate for a Twix wrapper. I was sure the most heated glare was Tyler’s for ignoring his sister like that, but it really was for both of our own sanity’s. I slightly lifted up my head to look over at my father who was starring at me as well. His glare wasn’t heated with disappointment but with understanding of my actions. All the looks were filled with something weather it was confusion, understanding, anger or pity. The look that meant the most was my father’s though. Mixed with his understanding there was a hint of pride. Before I got the opportunity to glance back down to continue my inspection of the shiny brown wrapper, my chair was pulled back. I snapped my head to gaze at the culprit only to find Danny staring down at me with an unreadable but heated look. “I don’t know how many times I’m going to have to tell you this but, Grow a set of balls and…” The moment Danny began speaking to me my wolf began calming down. It was like he was waiting for his Alpha to give him intrusions or for his friend advice. A smile cracked onto my face as I looked up at my childhood friend. “Man, you really need to start getting better advice.” I bit back with a smirk.
