Akari's POV
"Blood is not always thicker than water"
My heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst from my chest—not from the gun aimed at me, nor the thought of losing my life in an instant, but from something far more terrifying.
The fear of losing the person I love more than anything in this world.
The thought of watching her slip away, powerless to stop it, filled me with a dread far worse than any danger to myself. It wasn’t just fear—it was agony, the kind that twists your soul, that makes you wish you could trade places, just to save them from being taken away.
Solenn looked straight into my eyes, her lips curving into a soft, reassuring smile, as if to say, It’s okay. Then she whispered, her voice like a ghost in the air, You can do it, my love.
And in that moment, I understood exactly what she meant.
"I'm very sorry, Zyleith," Richard muttered, his grip tightening on his gun, ready to pull the trigger.
Solenn gave me a mischievous wink.
That was all I needed.
"Aaaargh! Fuck!!"
Without hesitation, I sank my teeth into Xavier’s arm, biting down hard enough to break free from his grip. At the same moment, I drove my knee into his most vulnerable spot with every ounce of strength I had left.
Solenn, quick as ever, lunged for the gun, wrestling with Richard as they struggled for control.
Xavier let out a pained growl, doubling over as he clutched himself. Wasting no time, I kicked him hard, sending him sprawling to the ground. Before he could recover, I grabbed the fallen gun and aimed it at him.
He sat up, laughing maniacally.
"Hahahaha! Wow! I didn’t see that coming! Damn, I got careless. You really surprised me!" His laughter was wild, almost crazed.
"Don’t you dare move! You’re finished! You’re going to pay for everything you’ve done!" I shouted, my voice shaking with rage. My eyes burned with unshed tears.
He only laughed harder.
"Really? And what are you going to do, huh? Are you actually planning to shoot me?" He sneered, tilting his head mockingly. "Do you even know how to use that thing, pretty lady? I bet you don’t."
He was testing me, taunting me, thinking I wouldn’t pull the trigger. And maybe he was right. I had never held a gun before.
"Ugh, you’re no fun! Why don’t you make this thrilling? Shoot me! Come on, shoot me, you motherfucker! Hahaha! Pull the damn trigger already, bitch!"
My hands trembled. My heart raced. I could feel my emotions spiraling, my rage and fear battling inside me.
"Don’t listen to him!" Solenn’s voice cut through the chaos, grounding me. "You don’t have to stoop to his level. Don’t let him mess with your mind, darling."
I clenched my jaw, breathing heavily.
Xavier turned to Solenn, his expression darkening. "You already defeated Richard, huh? Hah! As expected, that bastard is weak. Useless as fuck."
Solenn, panting from exhaustion, stepped forward and kicked him again. He only laughed, the sound sending a chill down my spine.
"You’re done, Xavier! Surrender!" she commanded, pointing the gun at him.
