Chapter 28: Wronged

 

Lisa’s face instantly turned red. Wrapped in Jungkook’s broad and warm hands, all the negativity in her heart were instantly swept away. She obediently let him hold her hand and the two of them slowly walked home.

When they reached the entrance of an alley, Lisa’s sharp eyes suddenly spotted a small restaurant that sold beef noodles. Her eyes immediately lit up as she said, “Jungkook, why don’t we have noodles tonight!”

It was probably too late to cook dinner. It was more convenient to have dinner in a restaurant outside.

Jungkook did not have any objections and readily agreed, “Sure.”

After they entered the restaurant, Lisa led him to find a seat and sat down. Then, she took out a tissue from her bag and carefully wiped off the oil stains on the table. Only then did she raise her head and ask him with a smile, “Jungkook, what do you want to eat?”

“Anything.”

“Okay, then we’ll eat their signature dish.” Lisa stood up with a smile and walked to the kitchen to look for the boss.

Jungkook stared at the oil stains on the table that had not been wiped clean at all. He pursed his lips.

This was the first time he had stepped into such a small roadside restaurant in his many years of life. Usually, at home, the eating environment and food standards were top-notch. Every meal was handled by a dedicated servant.

His life in the small mountain village before they came to the city was already tough in his eyes. However, at least he made his own food. No matter how bad it tasted, it was clean and hygienic. Here, not only did he have to eat together with other customers, the oil stains on the table were not even wiped clean.

While Jungkook was staring at the cockroaches that flashed past the cracks in the wall in a daze, Lisa had already brought two bowls of steaming hot noodles over.

“Here, yours is the signature beef noodles and mine is beef offal noodles. I specially gave you the slightly spicy one. Eat it quickly.”

Lisa handed him a pair of chopsticks and took the lead to eat a mouthful of beef offal. She narrowed her eyes happily and said, “It’s so delicious.”

This shop was the one that she liked to come to and eat with her classmates when she was still in school. Their pricing was affordable and they used good ingredients. She did not expect that after so many years, the taste of their food would still be the same.

Jungkook looked at her silently, then picked up a piece of beef and put it into his mouth.

“Is it good?” Lisa looked at him expectantly.

After swallowing the beef, Jungkook frowned slightly, but he still said against his heart, “It’s okay.”

Seeing that Jungkook looked a bit awkward, Lisa put two and two together. She asked in a low voice, “Is this your first time eating beef noodles?”

Jungkook nodded his head honestly.

Hearing that, Lisa immediately felt bad for him. His parents died early, so he had always been alone since he was young. Moreover, he was extremely poor. How could he not go down the wrong path?

He was so poor that he had not even had a bowl of beef noodles. Lisa really felt sorry for him.

Thinking of this, Lisa made up her mind. Since Jungkook’s previous life was so difficult, as his wife, she decided to work hard to make his life better!

Then, Lisa assured Jungkook with a determined look, “We will definitely have a good life in the future!”

Jungkook was stuffing noodles into his mouth when he was suddenly comforted by Lisa in a sympathetic tone. After a moment of confusion, he finally reacted.

He realised that he had been misunderstood by her as a poor person who had never tried beef noodles. She was feeling sorry for him!

Jungkook did not care about his identity as a poor person. On the contrary, because of this wonderful misunderstanding, he was very touched that Lisa was feeling sorry for him and wanted to make things better for him. He even wanted to do it a few more times.

So, Jungkook smiled and agreed, “Okay.”

Seeing Jungkook smile, Lisa was stunned and quickly said, “Believe me. When I get paid, I will take you out for a good meal!”

“Okay, I believe you.” Jungkook replied with a smile on his face.

With this promise, Lisa had a lot of motivation to go to work for the next few days. One day, when Lisa was discussing a client’s proposal with her colleagues in the group meeting, Krystal suddenly pushed the door open and entered.

As soon as she entered, Krystal threw a stack of documents in front of her with a cold face and scolded, “Your mistake caused the company to lose two big clients!”

Lisa was stunned. Then, she picked up the documents on the table and flipped through them. She recognized that this was the plan that she had made according to Krystal’s instructions. She explained, “Supervisor Chen, didn’t you ask me to do this...”

“This plan is signed by you, right?” Krystal interrupted her defence and said aggressively.
