"Hello, is this (Y/N)? Yes, I'm Doctor Kim, and I was calling you to let you know your mother is in the hospital in critical condition. I would recommend you come to see her; we aren't sure how much longer she has," The doctor's voice rang through my head all night long, and I didn't bother to get any sleep. I felt guilty for not wanting to go see her, the woman who gave birth to me but abandoned me for alcohol and blamed me for my dad leaving. I didn't want to see her, but if I didn't go, I would live with constant regret since, at the end of the day, she was still my mother, even if she was a bad one. "(N/N), it's time for you to record your lines," Jungkook said, snapping me out of my trance. I got up without saying anything and instead just walked into the room, putting the headphones on over my head. "We're going to start with Dope, I highlighted your sections of the song, so start whenever you're ready," I nodded at our producer's words and waited for the music to start. The song was fun and upbeat and didn't fit the concept, so it was probably a B-side song or was going to be released as a single. Being in the recording studio at this moment felt like an escape for me, I got to sing, which was one of my favorite things to do, and it served as a distraction from everything that had happened last night. "I need you to be raspier. I need your Busan dialect to come out," I giggled at our producer's words since usually he would tell me the opposite and would prefer I was soft-spoken and delicate. "I need the (Y/N) that I saw on stage last night to come out," I nodded while laughing and readjusting the headphones to sing my part once again. I looked down at the lyrics sheet only to see that I had gotten a slight rap segment. It was short, but I still had to rap despite my being one of the lead vocalists. "Perfect, you did amazing with this song, let's move on to Love is Not Over,"
I swapped the Dope lyrics sheet out for the one labeled Love is Not Over with my name written neatly on it. On the top, I noticed it was labeled vocal line. I looked up to look at the producer, who was too busy working on pulling up the music and getting it ready for me. "Pdogg, why does this say the vocal line on the top?" I questioned, being slightly confused since we were a rap-focused group, so a vocal-only song was out of the ordinary for us. "Common sense (Y/N), it's a song that only the vocal line is singing," he explained to me, making me feel slightly dumb at my lack of common sense at the moment. I started reading over the lyrics only to realize this was the song Jungkook and Jin helped write. I couldn't help but smile and feel proud of how involved we were all getting in our albums; it made me feel more connected. Although I didn't help write anything since my one attempt was a terrible try, nonetheless, I felt proud. The music started playing, and I started singing along, I couldn't help but feel slightly emotional while doing so, I didn't relate to the lyrics, but everything going on was starting to take a toll on me. There was only so much I could endure, after all, I was still a 17-year-old girl. "I need you to sing background vocals. I already recorded Jungkook, so I wanted to have your voices harmonizing, I also wanted you to sing the high notes in the background," Pdogg explained to me with a serious look on his face. I had done high notes before, but this one was a lot more delicate and required me to hold it for a longer period than I had ever held a note before. I nodded slowly while biting the inside of my cheek out of nervousness. "Don't be nervous, you're doing that thing again," I guess my biting my cheek had become a subconscious habit, but Pdogg sure seemed to notice. "Take a deep breath. I'll start the music, and then you can get the high notes over, taking a metal with," I nodded note of his suggestions, took a deep breath, and waited for the music to start. The other member's voices filled my ears, and I belted out the high note, trying to sound as delicate as possible.
