SHE OFTEN WONDERED where she'd be in life if the world hadn't fallen apart. it had been a year at this point, her seventeen birthday coming and going without her knowing. she couldn't remember the day, let alone what the date was. keeping track of those things had felt silly since the world didn't have a use for those things.

she often wondered if she would have succeeded in graduating early by now, if she would be preparing to start college. going into the medical field had been a long dream of hers, one she'd had since before she could remember. helping people had been what she wanted to do with her life, she'd watched people she cared for wither away in hospital beds.

when her grandmother died, that's when it all seemed to click, that was when she truly learned she did want to be in the medical field. she had learned a handful of things from hershel, he'd taught her to the best of his abilities. with each thing he taught her, she caught on quickly, it stuck in her mind like glue.

she was grateful to know even the smallest of things, even if there weren't high chances she'd need the skills, it was a blessing to have.

her boots gently thudded against the metal stairs, eyes scanning the quiet cell block. her eyes landed on lee who cradled judith, attempting to eat the oatmeal in his bowl, tiny hands kept grasping the spoon. he laughed softly at the grimes baby, coo's left her lips. small blabbers from her learning to use her voice, colette slowly neared the boy. ignoring the burning sensation that pierced deep within her chest.

returning from woodbury was a punch to the gut, when they had spoken colette had expected an entirely different way. he'd called it a mistake, a spur of the moment. his words were like a stab to her heart, the blade twisting as crimson flowed heavy from the beating organ. they'd stayed civil, speaking only when necessary, yet even then it was hard.

she had excepted what her heart wanted, she wanted lee, he didn't want her. she hated that he'd seemingly toyed with her feelings, it had been hypocritical for him. saying as when a boy in their grade, his name was jackson, he was tall with fluffy blonde hair, he had soft blue braces and a smile that made her heart flutter. he had made her feel special to him, he'd kissed her, claimed he wanted to be with her and then left her high and dry. he'd completely ghosted her. in result lee had given him a broken nose, and two dark black eyes.

cole hadn't known it then, but he'd done it because he held the feelings that she had now.

she often wished she could smack the lee boy upside the head, give him an earful for wrenching her heart, she didn't, she had to remain somewhat civil. "here i'll take her." colette mumbled, gently picking her sister up from the walsh boy's arms. he smiled in gratitude at the girl with a soft nod, "thanks." he mumbled under his breath, turning back to eating his food. colette slowly walked around the cell block, her arms wrapped around her sister, the baby propped on her hip. blue eyes searched the prison walls, her blabbering intensified.
