waking up

Warmth enveloped you, melting your thoughts into a blurry mess of comfort. You felt yourself slowly return from dreamland to the real world, however you didn't bother with opening your eyes just yet. Your mind felt hazy still with sleep and the warmth was too comfortable to pull away from.

Your lips quirked up as you snuggled deeper into the warmth. You remembered how fun last night was, with c/n over for a sleepover. You played all sorts of games and talked about all sorts of stuff, something that you knew could do with only him as sometimes even silence was enough to make the two of you enjoy each other's company. It had been some time since you last had some quality time to catch up together like this and you greatly treasured such moments with your best friend.

And you treasured your friendship even more than your feelings towards him, that was why you had never told him of them, always pushed them away from your head. You didn't want to ruin this friendship. You'd gladly sacrifice your feelings, bury them deep beneath your heart so long it meant staying his best friend.

But just like all the other times, you quickly pushed all these troubling, romantic thoughts of c/n away. You focused on the fun last night brought instead. You loved having sleepovers like these.

You threw your arm around the pile of warmth and heard it take a sharp intake of breath at your movement.

The sound made you pry your eyes open.

Instead of meeting blanket, you met hard chest rising up and down calmly. Glancing up, c/n was already staring down at you with a mixture of surprise and amusement mingled with sleepiness when your eyes crashed into his.

Your cheeks blushed when you realized you were in fact snuggling into him, not the comforter. Immediately, you tried to pull away from him.

His arms didn't let you. Only then did you realize he had had his arms around you this whole time. Did you hug each other in your sleep? "Stay like this a little longer," he murmured, voice raspy with sleep. He leaned his chin atop your head, his hand caressing the small of your back.

You didn't dare say anything lest your voice broke. You willed your racing heartbeat to slow as you shut your eyes again, ignoring the blood rushing to your cheeks. The arm you had slung around his waist previously tightened its hold without you even realizing.

You stayed that way a little longer.

As your face pressed against his warm skin, against his ribcage shielding the heart you so desperately wanted to own, the thought of yesterday night couldn't leave your mind. How you were getting ready to sleep and he insisted you stay in the bed and he on the couch. You knew however, how uncomfortable the couch was and how sore one felt after laying down on it. Therefore, you insisted on sleeping together in his bed as it was big enough to fit you both with enough sleeping space. How he agreed and began changing into his sleeping attire, which consisted of a loose shirt and shorts, right in front of you, putting all his muscles on display. How you watched him during. How he turned around with his hands across his eyes when you said you were going to change.

"Did you sleep well?" his voice broke through the chaos in your head. You didn't trust yourself to do anything more than just nod against him. You felt his breath tickle the top of your head. "Good. I slept nice, too."

"I think we should get up, now. We still have studying to do, remember?" you managed to get out after finally finding your voice. You had to smile at that - the initial point of him having you over was to study for the upcoming test, but you got nothing done, of course.

He chuckled in response. "Ah, yes. Studying." He made no move to retrieve his hands from your back, though, and neither did you.

"Okay, c'mon now," you laughed after letting yourself enjoy five more minutes in his warm hug, and patted his chest while shuffling back from him.

He groaned and ran his hand across his face, combing it through his hair. Then he finally got up and began changing his clothes.

You snuggled deeper into the pillow, clutched the blanket to your chin as you still made no move to get up, content on watching his back muscles flex as he took off his sleeping t-shirt.

Suddenly, he turned around to stare you in the eyes, chest bare, abs on display. "Y/n," he muttered your name like a prayer, "if you won't stop looking at me like that, I won't be able to hold back anymore." It was partly a threat, partly a plead.

You buried your cheek deeper into the pillow, your eyes straying from his eyes to shamelessly sweep over his sculpted body before slowly returnibg them to his e/c eyes, now heated with an emotion unknown. Perhaps it was the sleepy, dazy state you were still in so soon after waking up due to which you muttered back, "looking at you like what?" all the while still letting your gaze trace his body.

He stepped closer to the bed, t-shirt forgotten on the floor. "Like you're eating me with your eyes," he whispered, eyes resembling those of a predator stalking its prey. "Like you'd let me do the things I so desperately want to do to you." Sinful words spilled from his lips, letting your imagination run free. He moved towards you still, his hands propped against the mattress as he leaned over you.

You blamed the redness on your cheeks on being overheated under the blanket. "What things?"

He opened his mouth to answer, but your finger found its way to his lips, sealing them closed before he could utter a single word. "Don't tell me. Show me," you dared, channeling a surge of boldness from you had no idea where.

Something feral flashed in his eyes. He lowered the blanket from your face, his own leaning down until his hair tickled your forehead and noses brushed.

His lips claimed yours as if he had been waiting his whole life for the opportunity.

And perhaps, he was.
