"I don't think we can drive any further," C/n's voice echoed solemnly through the car, finding its way to your ears and bouncing off of the windows. "We'll have to wait here until the snow lessens."

As if hearing his words, the snowflakes began drumming on the car even harder, concealing your surroundings in a curtain of white. The snow was heavy and moist, sticking to your windshields in clumps like glue.

"You can pull over at the gas station," you said while nodding, pointing with your finger towards a beam of light some meters ahead. C/n slowed even more, moving like a snail on the road until reaching the gas station. There, he parked the car very carefully and turned off the engine. He sighed as he stretched his fingers after having clutched the steering wheel for so long.

He then proceeded to run his hand over his face, asking, "so, what do we do now?"

Snow piled atop the windshield, concealing the outside world from your view.

"Wait until the snow stops?" you shrugged, half stating and half asking.

"I think it's still gonna be a while until that happens. And then it would still be hard to drive, with the roads full of snow before they clean them up."

"I guess we'll actually have to sleep here in the car tonight," you chuckled. Prior to starting this trip of yours, you had joked about sleeping in the car due to a divine intervention of sorts - but you obviously had no belief it was to happen for real.

"You called it, Y/n," he replied, chuckling as well.

"Don't try to deny that you aren't glad we have to spend time like this together," you nudged his shoulder. It was you who couldn't deny the fact, but there was no way you'd ever admit it to him.

C/n held up his hands in pretend defeat. "You saw right through me."

"Well, you are like an open book to me."

The snow continued to thump softly against the car, mimicking the sound of a beating heart. Even though you were joking only a few seconds before, the atmosphere suddenly turned serious. His eyes bore into yours as he turned around in the driver's seat.

"If I'm like an open book to you," he began in a low voice, "then why do you still not see..." He cut himself off abruptly, as if just now realizing what he had said without ever meaning to.

"See what?" you pressed, suddenly self-conscious due to his intense stare.

The look in his eyes disappeared and he quickly masked his emotions with a dazzling smile. "Nothing. I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore. I'm so tired," he ran his hand down his face again, a gesture of frustration.

Albeit puzzled by his expression, you let it go. "Okay," you began, drumming your fingers against the board both to mimic thinking and hide your nerves.

"Okay," he replied, none of you really knowing what to say next. The car was filled with an awkward silence and anticipation.

After a minute or so, both of you burst into laughter. It was awkward in the car, yes, but not in a bad way. More like a funny way. In a way which meant that you had already spent so much time together that sometimes you literally just ran out of things to say because you've said it all. In a way that hinted sometimes, sitting quietly in each other's presence was enough, too.

"But for real," you decided to break the silence, "we should do stuff like this more often."

The two of you had decided to go on a little roadtrip to another city you've never been to, something you had never done before. It was a nice change of pace.

"And check the weather forecast beforehand?" he asked jokingly, earning a chuckle from you, "but yeah, it was more fun than I thought it would be," he admitted.

"Of course it was fun, duh. I was there." You straightened your shoulders and puffed out your chest comically.

He laughed, the sound like dripping honey. "Yeah, true. Everything's fun when you're there." He had this gentle look in his eyes you could almost put a name on - love, peace, longing. Almost.

You didn't dare to.

Couldn't risk feeding your hopeless heart like that.

But it still left you speechless nonetheless. Being at a loss for words did not go unnoticed on his side. "What? You're so flustered cat got your tongue?" His laugh resumed, sticky and sweet.

Still not knowing how to reply, you looked at the ground in defeat. "No," you managed, although both of you knew it was a lie. The blanket of snow fell ever heavier atop the car, transforming it into a ball of snow. Was this how it felt inside an igloo? The snow formed shimmering shadows across his face when you looked at him.

He was staring at you with a wide smile stretching his lips.

"What are you staring at me for," you smacked his arm in an attempt to get him to stop. You had no idea why his look was suddenly bothering you so much. Somehow, it felt like if you let him look longer, more closely, he'd see it all - the secret you carried within your heart. The feelings you tried to bury. The desire you tried to quench.

It felt like you'd serve him your inner self on a silver plate. And you weren't ready to do that just yet. You weren't even sure whether there will be a time when you'd be ready for it.

Your attempt worked - in a way. He shook his head while his shoulders shook with slight laughter of disbelief. That look returned to his eyes, one you didn't dare think about too much. "I didn't know it was this easy to make you flustered. It's funny how you get all shy out of nowhere."

The only thing you did was turn away from his watchful gaze. What were you supposed to tell him now? You shivered and you weren't sure whether it was because of the weather or the fear of him finding out.

"C'mon, Y/n. Look at me." There was a slight command to his tone, a playful one. Still, you continued to look at the shadowy whiteness of the snow piling on the car windows. "Why won't you look at me? Do you like me or what?" His voice still held a hint of laughter in it.

You couldn't look at the snow anymore. Bracing yourself before turning your head, your eyes met his e/c ones firmly held on you. The look you gave him must've said it all. You must've served your heart to him, along with a knife for him to stab it with. Any hints of playfulness disappeared from his features. A kind of seriousness seeped into his face.

"Shit," he breathed out. "You really do, don't you? You really do like me?" He sounded like he couldn't believe his words. He took your shoulders, eyes never straying away from yours, searching.

For reassurance? For a hint this was only a joke?

You were unable to tell what it is he wanted. But would you lie about your feelings?

You really didn't want him to know. Not like this. Not right now. Not when you didn't have anywhere to escape to, not when you still needed to spend the night here in the car with him, not when you still needed him to drive you home tomorrow.

On the other hand, it was his right to know. And it was also his choice whether he'd choose to stay friends or rather forget everything about you.

So although you really didn't want to tell him, you couldn't lie. He deserved the truth from you.

"Yes," was all you uttered. It must be enough for him. You closed your eyes, not ready to face the betrayal on his face.

But no sound came from him. No movement. Was he even breathing?

You pried your eyes open. The way he was looking at you... It totally pushed all the air out of your lungs. That look-

He opened his lips and a whisper came out, "I like you, Y/n."

When your lips brushed his, you shivered again. Only this time, you weren't exactly sure whether it was from the cold or sheer luck and happiness you felt as his fingers tangled in your hair, pulling you closer to him while deepening your kiss.
