stormy weather

Your shoes clicked against the pavement and echoed in the silent night. You were finally off of work, your shift ending around midnight. As you locked the door behind yourself, seeing as you were the only one left there since it was your cleaning duty today, you felt the crisp, chilly night air fill your lungs.

And then a revving of an engine involuntarily brought a smile to your lips.

Removing the key from the lock and making sure it's safely closed one last time, you swiveled on your heels to find your best friend, C/n, already waiting to take you home.

He's insisted on taking you home ever since he learned you were staying there until midnight some days, which was, precisely, yesterday, when you complained to him about how long your shift the day before yesterday was.

So this was his first time taking you home on his bike. Until this moment, until seeing him with his helmet on, leaning against his motorcycle, you weren't actually sure he'd come.

Well, you didn't want him staying up late just because of you when you knew he had his own responsibilities to take care of as well. It somehow felt like a burden, taking you home, but you were still so much grateful and happy to see him there on the pavement, waving you over with another helmet in his left hand.

It sure did get scary walking home when it was dark, even taking public transportation (if it managed to come during the late hours) wasn't the safe option, with guys hanging around in there and with no exit for you to run through if something were to happen.

"Y/n, hey," he greeted, his e/c eyes looking at you through his half-opened visor.

"What's up, C/n," you grinned back at your best friend, and shut his visor down teasingly. "Ready to take on the night?" You took the helmet from him and put it on, pretending this was the beginning of some kind of adventure rather than driving a couple streets to your place. You had always loved riding bikes, even though you had no motorcycle license of your own and therefore the opportunities were scarcely there until you had met C/n, who just so happened to own one. And be able to give you a lift or let you come along on a ride.

"Hop on," he laughed, getting on his bike and waiting to feel your weight safely secured behind him. Your arms immediately wrapped around his stomach as they had done countless times before when he'd let you join his rides.

The engine revved again and then you were moving across the dark. You leaned further into him the more he accelerated and couldn't stop your heart from beating rapidly due to the adrenaline that riding so fast brought into your veins and excitement that you felt every time you felt the metal construction under you. You wondered if he could feel your heartbeat from how you pressed against his back.

After a few turns, he began slowing down until coming to a full stop right in front of where you lived. You hopped off and took off the helmet, brushing down your hair.

"Thanks for coming to pick me up," you smiled at him, wanting him to know you appreciate the gesture.

"For you always, Y/n," he replied immediately, although his voice was muffled by the helmet he kept on his head. "I'll come on Sunday too. Now go in and go to sleep, it's late."

You fought the urge to smile. Since he was still seated on the bike and you were taller than him because of it, you bent down slightly, took the front of his helmet and, pushing his head closer to you, placed a light kiss on his helmet, on the side under which his cheek hid itself. Your lips left a slightly red stain on the matte cover of his helmet. "Goodnight." With that, you turned around and walked to the door without looking back at him and could vastly hear him leaving only after you got inside and shut the door.
