There was no time for celebrations. Cordelia, alongside her daughter, were travelling the ocean at new speeds. Without any reason to go slower, the older woman didn't hold back on swiftness - her researcher getting ahead of her at some points.
A mer's tail usually represents the same colour as their face. Cordelia had dark blue skin so she had a dark blue tail. Before her daughter gained this new ability, she had always thought the younger one would have a tail that abided by these rules. Instead, she had a dark blue tail like her mother's - even though the scales surrounding Val's gills perfectly matched her neck.
They had been swimming for almost an hour before Val caught a glimpse of a shadow coming from the surface. Wings. They found them. Without a second thought, the researcher dragged her mother back up to the surface - screaming after Celeste.
"Cel! We're down here!" Val reached up for the sky.
"Val!" the avian dived towards the pair before hovering just above the water in front of them. "Who's this?" Val only tapped her gills, Celeste's expression softening into a smile. "Congrats, V. Let's get you two back..."
The two mermaids followed the crow back to the ship, changing back into legs to climb the rope.
"V! You're back!" Lyra rapped the other in a bear hug before pushing Val back in front of her. "Don't ever do that again, asshole! You had me worried sick!"
"Nice to have you back..." Atlan rested his hand on her shoulder. "Good job on finding your mom..."
"How did you know she was-"
"You have her eyes. You told us that back in the Centaur territory..."
Breaking the heartfelt moment, Theo and Zeke began frantically calling for them. "Ship incoming!" the mage pointed at a massive battleship coming straight for them.
Cordelia's eyes widened. "Maverick."
