The next day,
Now Zayn and Kendra were working at Collin Global.
Zayn looked at her through the glass and decided to call her over to talk. He ordered Levi to call her and was now waiting.
"May I?" she asked for permission. Zayn gestured toward himself and said, "Yes..."
"Did you call me?" she asked seriously. Zayn sighed and walked toward her, but when he got close, she stepped back. Zayn noticed this and sighed, realizing she was uncomfortable.
"Tell me, what is it?" she asked. Zayn looked at her and said, "I'm sorry for my behavior over the past few days, Kendra!"
Kendra chuckled bitterly and asked, "Sorry? For what? You and I are just business partners, Zayn. So, for that, we need to maintain some distance... You were just maintaining distance, right? Then what happened to you all of a sudden?"
Zayn looked into her eyes intently. He could see both pain and anger there. He tried to hold her hand, but she stepped back again and said, "Maintain your distance, Zayn. Don't ever think about touching me." Her voice wavered as she spoke. Zayn sighed and said,
"Okay, I won't touch you, but please, just listen to me. I... I was just stressed at that time, and that's why I—"
Before he could finish, someone interrupted.
"Hello, Zayn," Laria said as she walked into his cabin with a wide smile.
Zayn looked at her with frustration. Laria glared at Kendra, then turned to Zayn, hugging his arm.
"It's been a while since we saw each other, Zayn. And thank you for the bodyguards you assigned for my protection. I didn't know you were so concerned about me," she said, side-eyeing Kendra.
Zayn raised an eyebrow and was about to speak, but Laria continued.
"And also, why did you postpone the dinner with my parents, Zayn? I know you've been stressed with work. You know, that dinner was meant to discuss our engagement..."
She said this deliberately, ensuring Kendra would hear every word.
Zayn frowned as he listened, and Kendra's eyes widened in shock at the mention of an engagement. She looked at Zayn, and he looked back at her, about to explain, but Kendra interrupted.
"I'm leaving," she said abruptly and stormed out.
Laria smirked triumphantly. Zayn took a deep breath, glared at Laria in frustration, and shouted, jerking her hand away from him,
"WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HERE IN MY COMPANY? JUST GET LOST, LARIA!"
Laria flinched slightly, but when she tried to say something, Zayn shouted again, "JUST GET OUT!"
Laria took a step back, startled, and looked at him with wide eyes before turning to leave. On her way out, she noticed Kendra sitting in the guest room, massaging her head. Laria smirked and walked toward her.
"Hey, Kendra," she said.
Kendra looked up and sighed when she saw her. "What do you want?" she asked.
Laria chuckled and sat down opposite Kendra with an air of arrogance. "Why do you look so dull and frustrated?" she asked mockingly.
Kendra crossed her legs and responded in her usual cold tone, "It's none of your business. Stay out of my life."
Laria chuckled again, but this time her expression turned serious. "It should be me telling you that, right?"
Kendra frowned, confused. Laria smirked and said, "Stay out of Zayn's and my life. You're the only wall standing between us now."
