"I told you the handcuffs were a nice touch," Blaire shrieked as the click of the cuffs sounded by hitting the metal pole of the lunch table. My friend was barely able to slide off the bench before June realized her entrapment and reached out to grab the collar of Blaire's shirt.
I backed out of the bench before June realized Blaire was a lost cause and started to reach across the table with her other arm. "Are you sure that's going to keep her?" I muttered as my blonde friend started to struggle against the cuffs, then glanced at Blaire, who was twirling the keys in her hand but still had a sense of unease on her face.
"I mean, they kinda have to until she calms down." We both looked around the courtyard to see curious onlookers, but in the end they all must've seen that it was June trapped to the table, therefore making them walk by. It wasn't the first time we handcuffed her to the table. The girl had some major anger issues, so when I disclosed to Blaire that I was nervous about telling her what happened with Melanie...of course, we had to resort to 'Code: Detain June.'
The table started the shake, but sure enough it still held firm as June tried to get the cuffs off. "I swear to fucking GOD, I am going to kill that bitch. I just got my nails done, so these acrylics are NOT afraid to leave a mark." Blaire and I both glanced at June's hands, and sure enough they were definitely sharpened to cause quite a bit of harm.
"June," I paused as she violently shook the table, "We're not letting you go until you promise us that you-"
"No!" She shrieked.
I cleared my throat and continued, "that you will not go find Melanie and commit assault."
She rolled her eyes, "I wasn't going to assault her."
Blaire interjected, "Um, you definitely were going to assault her, hence why we decided to cuff your crazy ass."
I crossed my arms and watched as June sat up straight while still attached to the bench. "I was going to kill her. Homicide is definitely different than just assault."
Both of our eyes widened and Blaire put her hands in the air in exasperation, "June, that's the same thing! Arguably worse. You are not killing Addison's girlfriend."
"Ex," the blonde said with a tilt of the head.
I let the phrase marinate a bit in the air, before deciding it was safe to sit across from June. Blaire thought otherwise, as she still stood a good distance away from the other blonde. "June, Melanie and I didn't break up. Technically."
She blinked twice, "You're still with her after that bullshit?"
I felt my chest get a bit heavy, thinking about what transpired last weekend. In hindsight, June's reaction was not a surprise. I knew she would overreact, as she did warn Melanie to her face that she would not be happy if she ended up breaking my heart.
However, it wasn't like that. Sure, I had a lot of questions in my head and we haven't talked since that weekend - but, we did not technically break it off. Each day has been me staring at our chat together, and every now and then I would see the familiar blue circles to indicate that she was coming up with a text. Yet, with every tiny bit of hope, came a disappointment as I watched the texting bubbles disappear each time.
I thought about calling Melanie, or even simply showing up at her house. However, there was something stopping me from doing so each time. I felt like a part of myself knew that I wasn't the one that owed Melanie an explanation, but instead I was waiting for her to step up and explain.
But, did I want to understand her reasoning? Did I want to hear about this so-call past relationship with Lily's ex? A relationship that I couldn't even fathom, because Melanie specifically told me that she was never with someone multiple times. Did I want to know about why Melanie felt the need to resort to violence to get Cierra to shut up? Why was even Cierra in Melanie's house?
