I was in a tank top, my new skinny jeans, and platform pumps. Lawliet and I were sitting in the main room while everyone worked around us. We, on the other hand, we're playing chess.
"I'm horrible at board games. And you know you're going to win anyway, so what's the point?" I said, moving a knight two up and one to the left. "At least try." He sighed. "I am trying!" I huffed.
He didn't say anything, just smiled. "What?" I asked. "You're so cute when you're mad." He said and I glared at him. "I mean the non-psychotic mad." He added quickly. "That's better." I grinned. "Your turn."
He moved his queen and captured my king. "Ughhhh!" I groaned and he started to reset the board. "No, I don't wanna play again." I crossed my arms. "Are you being a sore loser?" He raised his brow. "Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not." I refused to look at him.
"Come on, H, I promise to go easy on you." He said. "You said that the last three games!" "And I have been going easy!" "Liar." I said and he gasped. "I'm offended you think that low of me." He put his hand to his chest. "Oh, come on, like you've never lied?" I scoffed and he shrugged. "You've got a point." Lawliet admitted.
The board was already reset. He held out his pinky to me. "Pinky swear I'll be easy." He said and I rolled my eyes. "Fine. But I still don't see the point. You've probably already predicted every move I'm going to make up until which corner I'll cry in when you win." I said, and that earned me a laugh from Light over at a computer.
L frowned at me with sad puppy eyes. "I don't want you to cry." He said. "Fine. I won't cry. I'll just curl up and make it my emo corner and start growing mushrooms." I rolled my eyes with a smile.
He let me go first, and though I knew he was just going to predict my moves, I went. I moved my first pawn two spaces up and he did the same, then the pawn to the right of that one space up.
After several moves and loads of grunting and groans and exasperated sighs from me, I somehow managed to get his king. "Whoa! I did things!" I smiled widely. "See?" Lawliet smiled widely at me. "You let me win, didn't you?" I narrowed my eyes. "Never would I ever." He put his hand over his heart. "Liar." I grinned and pecked his nose. "Love you." "Mhmm."
"Ouch, that hurt my heart." He said and rubbed his chest a bit, then he looked up with widened eyes. "L? Babe? What is it?" I asked, worrying slightly. "K..." He started, and fell over. "L?!" I rushed over. "Kira." He got out and stopped moving. I pressed two fingers to his neck. No pulse. I checked his breathing. No breath.
My world stopped in that moment. I froze, and I forgot how to breathe. Tears filled my eyes and I fell back, moving away from his body. "No no no no no no no NO!" I cried, gripping my hair. Misa came over and tried to comfort me, but I pushed her away and went over to Matsuda. "Give me your gun, or it turns ugly." I said and he gave it to me with no questions or anything.
I checked to see if it was loaded. And shot one bullet at the floor. Perfect. The whole squad was around L's body, and I raised the gun and shot Light in the shoulder.
He screamed and everyone turned towards me in shock. "H? What are you-" "shut up and listen to me you motherfucker." I growled, walking over. I held it up and aimed at Light.
"Why?" I asked and he fell silent. "Why?! Why did you kill him?!" I yelled at him. "You better answer or so help me, Satan-" "I needed to win!" Light suddenly spoke up. "What? That stupid game you and L had. Chasing each other? L trying to find out who was Kira, and Kira trying to find out L's name?" I laughed bitterly.
"Let me ask you something, Light. Do you know what it feels like to have your happiness ripped from you?" I asked and it was completely silent. "Well now I do, and let me tell you; IT FUCKING HURTS." I said and he remained silent.
"You know what also doesn't feel great? Never really being happy. You wanted to know about me, Kira? Well here you have it. My father beat me and my brothers and my mom. He was poison, and he kept us from happiness. Once he was out of the picture, I couldn't have happiness because I was in constant fear of being arrested by police for stealing food and clothes that we were too poor to get. Then, I killed a girl and I was arrested. I made my escape here, and I couldn't be happy because I had another fear that I was going to be recognised and taken away. Then I get one shred of happiness. One little flicker of light in my life, and you know what you did? YOU FUCKING KILLED HIM!"
I walked over and grabbed Light's head, forcing it to the side of mine. "Well, I'm fucking done. I'm giving you a choice. You either write my name down and kill me, Kira..." I said, and clicked a bullet in place, holding it against my head. "Or we both go out with a bang." I said, growling in his ear.
"Alright, I'll... Kill you..." He said and went over to his bag, getting out a notebook called a Death Note and a pencil. "Light...?" His father sounded broken hearted.
"Oh yeah, must feel nice to know that your son is Kira, and his girlfriend is Kira number two." I scoffed with a smirk. "What is your name?" Light asked and I brought him close and held the gun to our heads.
"Henley. Henley Germelman." I said and watched as he wrote it down. "You'll die in just under a minute." He said and I nodded, and went back over by L. I sat beside his body and closed his eyes. I felt my chest starting to tighten, and a pain erupted in my heart.
"Lawliet..." I sighed before blacking out.
Forever.
