I awoke to the sound of Lily's even breathing at around 6 or 7 in the morning.
At first all I could focus on was Lily's small sleeping figure tucked into my side again, but then I slowly realised that I wasn't in my room, the walls were gold and white instead of red and gold, the bed was smaller, the covers were white and light green instead of gold and white, the floor was covered in a white rug instead of being bare and the furniture was in a completely different arrangement.
If I wasn't in my room where in Merlin's name was I?
Then it dawned on me, I was in Lily's house, in her room, with her parents who knows where in the house.
Quickly after realising this I got up, though I made sure I didn't wake Lily, pulled my shoes on and snuck out the door as quietly as I could, listening intently as I crept through the house so I didn't run into her parents, Lemon or McWalrus, if the latter were here.
Though, as luck was always against me generally, the moment I reached the door handle someone called out to me.
"Good morning James! What are you doing here so early?" Mrs Evans chirped, the fact that she didn't sound at all concerned or suspicious was unnerving.
"Er... I just came to check if Lily was alright." to me it sounded more like a question than an answer.
"Oh yes, Jonothan and I checked on her earlier this morning." Mrs Evans smiled.
I paled and apparently Mrs Evans noticed because she chuckled and smiled at me again.
"James, you obviously care deeply about her to do what you did, and I know you're helping her by being there for her, Lily liked to have someone there to hold her when she was unsure, she needed to have physical contact, and I know that that's what you're letting her have."
I felt my cheeks heat up a bit and Mrs Evans chuckled.
"Th-thanks Mrs Evans." I stammered, nervously running a hand through my hair.
Mrs Evans chuckled again, probably at my nervousness, and shook her head.
"Stay James, Lily'll wonder where you went when she wakes up." Mrs Evans lead me towards the kitchen.
"Right." I said, still nervous, as we walked inot the kitchen where Mr Evans was cooking bacon and eggs.
"Morning James." Mr Evans grinned knowingly.
"Good morning Mr Evans."
"No need to sound so nervous son." Mr Evans guffawed.
"Right." I said awkwardly as I sat down on one of the bar stools.
Mr and Mrs Evans chuckled and I smiled nervously.
"Tell us about your Hogwarts experience James." Mrs Evans smiled.
"Er... where should I start?"
"Anywhere you want."
"Alright... I'd met Sirius before Hogwarts, at all the pureblood gatherings and stuff like that, but we didn't really become close friends until the train ride in first year, where I met Remus, Peter, Lily and Snape." I started.
"Serverus Snape?" Mr Evans asked suspiciously.
"Yes."
"God awful boy he was, glad that they finally saw how dark he was." Mr Evans snorted.
"Jonothan!" Mrs Evans repirmanded.
"I'm not taking it back."
"Wait... why didn't you just stop letting him come over?" I asked, confused.
