How anyone could live in a house like this was beyond me.
I could tell how much Mason did not like to be here and was constantly scanning for threats.
Odin was panicked. Rightfully so.
"They're not here? Where could they be?" He was pacing.
"Could they be with your parents? They're gone too?" I asked.
He shook his head, "They never took the twins anywhere. They don't go to school, they don't have friends, they never leave the house and especially not with our parents."
I didn't know what to do. I wanted to find his little brother and sister but I also didn't want to hang out long enough for his parents to get home.
"The door was broken down when we arrived. Has it always been like that?"
"No, someone must have come and kidnapped them. Oh my God oh my God." He started panicking again. "We need to call the police and start a search for them now!"
Mason hadn't said much since we got here. He wasn't a big talker in the first place, especially when he was out of the compound or with strangers.
"No police." Mason stopped Odin. "We will hide out and see if they come home with your parents. If not then we will find them."
Odin seemed to listen to Mason. "Okay okay. But I have no clue when they will be home and if they find us who knows how they will react."
"Oh trust me. They are not going to hurt us."
So that is how I ended up in a bush outside for about two hours, listening to Odin talk about Jenifer and Owen, and Mason constantly shushing us at every little sound he heard.
"Jenifer is teeny tiny, like probably the size of someone half her age. Owen is not far behind her. I feel bad for not being able to feed them well enough but-"
Mason covered Odin's mouth with his hand as a car fast approached the driveway.
I felt Mason completely wrap his body over me which made my cheeks feel a bit hotter.
The car door flew open and a very drunk-looking man got out. He was stumbling all over the place and it was very obvious he shouldn't have been driving.
On the other side, a woman who was in no better shape got out and stumbled over to her husband.
I looked over to Odin who looked enraged.
There were no signs of Jenifer or Owen.
The two of them walked up into the house, over the broken door, and out of our sight.
Odin stood up and got out of the bush. Looking even more worried and panicked than before.
"They must have been taken. They could be hurt or - even worse. They might be separated. They are probably so scared," he continued.
I grabbed his hands to try to calm him down. "Odin, look at me. We will find them. They will be found and okay. I promise you."
He was breathing heavily and I could tell his mind was going about a million miles an hour. "Deep breaths Odin."
I don't know what it was about him that made me want to take care of him but seeing him so nervous and worried made me nervous and worried too.
This seemed to work, he calmed down a bit and his heart didn't look like it was about to beat out of his chest anymore. "There you go, good job."
Mason didn't seem too impressed with me holding his hands but I really didn't care. We were not going to be able to help him unless he calmed down.
Just then I heard a man's voice yell. I turned to the house and saw Odin's father stumble out of the house toward us. "Hey! Who goes there!"
