Paying the Price

Chapter 66: Jenifer

I wasn't sure what to make of this new situation with Oakley and Janae.

My brothers and I never fought so I didn't know what to make of those two.

I was a bit scared at first but June taking Owen and me away and upstairs helped calm me down.

I liked Oakley and Janae both a lot. They were very nice so I don't know what to think. I didn't want them to argue.

I covered my ears as soon as they started to shout so I don't even really know what they were fighting about but I just knew that I didn't want to be there anymore and was more than happy to go upstairs with June.

June was definitely lying about the bruise Owen saw on her arm. My guess is that it was her dad. He was scary too.

I liked having sisters. June and Janae were the best sisters in the world and I wanted to be like them when I grew up.

A few hours after Janae and Oakley had stopped fighting, my two sisters had come up to Owen and I's room.

The two of us were playing on the floor, something we were never allowed to do before but had now become one of our favorite things.

"Hi sweet Jenifer," June said to me.

I only knew it was her speaking because she was in the same blue dress she had been in earlier and Janae was in the green one.

I was getting better at telling them apart but it was still a work in progress.

I didn't know why they were speaking to me now or what they wanted to come in here for.

Maybe I was in trouble? I wasn't sure what I had done but I've gotten yelled at for doing nothing many times before.

"Hello," I said very softly to her.

"June and I are about to have a girl's day and wanted to know if you wanted to join us?" Janae asked.

I was a bit stumped. I didn't know what a "girls day" was but the two of them seemed very happy.

Unlike the Janae, I had seen a few hours ago with Oakley.

I wasn't scared of her but I also was as excited to see her as I used to be.

"What is a 'girls day'?" Owen asked the same thing I had been wondering.

"We like to do things like paint our nails, try on clothes, do facials. We found a box full of things we think you would like Jenifer," June said to me.

I had never done any of those things before. It sounded fun but I don't know.

What if it was a trick to hurt me? I had been tricked way too many times.

I looked over towards Owen, silently asking him what I should do.

I did that a lot. I relied heavily on Owen for anything. He has become my voice in so many ways.

While I have started speaking more to the quadruplets it's still not a lot.

I want to be normal and speak to them.... I just can't.

"I think that would be really fun for you. Do you want to go with them?" Owen came and whispered in my ear.

I thought about it for a second. I did think that I might have fun. June and Janae also seem really happy about showing me what they have.

I turned and nodded at the girls, "Okay," I said very softly.

The two of them then got really happy with big smiles.
