Holding his backpack in your hands you turn the object with keen curiosity. Three star like objects populating the clear pack. Giving it a shake, they softly glow before dying down. Your hand travels down to handle the key chain attached to the bottom. Flipping it between your fingers, cool to the touch, a bit strange since you've come to expect nothing but warmth when around the star.
"You just like carrying this around?" You ask.
"Yeah, I don't really keep much in it aside from those star fractals." Sunspot signs. Both of you have decided to migrate your seating to the floor, the TV long since forgotten after your tussle. "It's like...a lucky item. I think I would actually die if anything happened to it."
"It would be horrible," Clutching it in your arms your eyes soften to express that understanding. "How do you get a star-fractal? I've never seen these until now."
"They're very uncommon, these are the only ones I've come across." He reaches as you pass his possession back. "They tend to appear after a shooting star lands on earth, making it a meteorite technically, but it's actually a star fractal."
"All meteorites were once shooting stars, a.k.a asteroids, but not all shooting stars are metores," Even if it is your own statement to understand, you still need to think about it for a moment. "Right?"
"Yes," Sunspot is clearly giggling as he nods and signs.
"That's really cool,"
"They remind me of the cosmos" Sunspot continues.
"Is that like your home?" You lean in a bit.
"I was born in a nebula like all stars," He gets up as you follow in suit with curiosity. "but space, the cosmos in general, is my home."
"So how'd you get here?" You place his backpack on the living room coffee table. Tinkling from his keychain hitting the solid frame.
"Well...how'd you get here?"
"Fair enough, that's a mystery for everyone here." spinning the pack so you can play with the straps, you continue, "Do you miss it?"
"Of course I do! I'm sure you miss your home too." Grabbing the pillows on your couch he tosses them to the ground nonchalantly. "I like it here, I really do and I'm glad for everyone that I've met. Pass me that one please?"
He points to a throw pillow to your left. With not much thought you toss the requested object.
"I hope you know I'm glad to have met you." His smile reaches his eyes as he looks at you.
An air of silence as those words hang in the air, dusted in golden shimmer.
"I'm glad to have met you too." you reply with a voice soft as silk with the exception of the crackle in your voice, quickly clearing it.
Sunspot is known for his bright yellows and orange hues. But pink and red might be a nice change of pace.
As he tosses the pillow to the ground you wonder, what was he doing?
As if to avoid your question he grabs the blanket from earlier and drapes it over the lengtn of the couch. Creating a tapestry of sorts, a roof!
He is hidden away in the soft cave.
"Are you building a fort?" Crossing your arms you walk around the 'low-to-ground' home, trying to find an entrance. "Who's going to have to clean this up after? You got a permit?"
Finding an open section you peek in, finding it much brighter than you thought you would.
"I don't need one." He signs, it was a little sad to see him so cramped in the small space.
"yeah, well I am spotting several OSHA violations and this structure is completely unsound." You tug on a corner of the blanket draped on the couch bringing down the structure. The scrambling of limbs and faint glow of his movements from under the sheet reminds you of fireflies.
His movements stop and drop down with a thunk.
Shaking your head at his antics you pull back the sheet to see his tongue sticking out in a 'dead' position.
Knock Knock Knock
"Food's here," you state. Making sure to not trip over the clutter on the floor, you successfully do not trip and die.
"Am I uh...?" The guy at the door falters his words, actions slow as he hands over the bags. Your face blank in confusion as you follow his gaze, unsure if he would continue his scentence or not.
Seeing what he sees now you let out an awkward laugh. Sunspot sprawled on the floor, the blanket now barely covering him amongst a floor of scattered pillows.
"We were um...building a fort! Y'know pillow forts," The bags of food in your hands are slowly getting heavier as you realize how unconvincing you sound.
"Yeah...You guys have fun." With a wave of his hand the stranger takes out his phone and walks away into the night. Completing the transaction of goods and services.
A slow turn of your heel, you shut the door with your foot.
"You're embarrassing you know that," a strained smile is etched on your lips. Sunspot lays on his side as the blanket drapes over his waist, fingers tap your flooring rhythmically with a dubious smile of innocence.
