Makayla Malfoy

Louis and I haven't exactly spoken since that night.  It's been four days.

Today is the wedding.  It only took me so long to realize that it was Bill and Fleur's wedding when Fleur excitedly said, "How's my Maid of Honor doing?" when she walked in on me getting ready.

I blink.  "Maid of Honor?"

"Did you not get the email?" she laughs.

"My father put a wifi blocker in my room, so I couldn't open anything," I mutter.

She chuckles, "Oh, no worries.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I'll just catch you up to speed!  Gabrielle and Ginny are the other bridesmaids, but you are the Maid of Honor!"

My jaw involuntarily drops at that.  "Maid of—what?  Me?  Why me?"

She lets out a short snort before saying, "Because you're the bravest woman I've ever known.  You and Harry won the TriWizard Tournament for Merlin's sake!"  I smile slightly as she continues, "So, back to what I was saying...  How are you doing?"

Sighing, I murmur, "As good as I can be."

"You and Louis are still not talking?"

I shake my head and say nothing else.

Louis Lupin

I attempt to tie my tie in the mirror in silence.  Today is Bill and Fleur's wedding.  Outside my window, I can see everyone setting the event up.  Sighing in defeat, I lower my hands from the tie loosely draped over my shoulders.

"I give up..." I mutter.

"Need help?" I hear Makayla ask from the doorway, awkwardness lingering in her tone.  Our eyes meet in the mirror.  There's a beat of silence before she speaks again.  "You've never been taught how to tie a tie, correct?"  I slowly nod as she walks over, muttering, "Well, I can help, if you'll let me."

"I guess you can..." I sigh.

She nods as she takes the fabric in her hands and starts working her magic.  I don't know why I'm still bitter.  If she doesn't want to tell me something, she shouldn't have to, but part of me feels like I have the right to know.  Part of me feels that I shouldn't have to beg her to tell me the truth.  If she finds it so hard to tell me whether or not she's staying with us, how am I supposed to know what else she can't tell me?

Soon enough, the wedding starts.  Makayla and I walk in together and people can automatically tell that something is happening between us.  The same energy that radiated off us when we were eleven years old radiates from us right now.  I hate it.

From the corner of my eye, I can tell that Makayla is on edge.  She's nervous.  Why?  I don't bother asking, despite my curiosity.  She isn't gonna tell the truth.  That's a given.

I break from her side and sit on the groom's side as she steps up to the altar, standing in the Maid of Honor's place as Charlie Weasley stands in the Best Man's place next to Bill.  The bridesmaids and groomsmen make their way down the isle and get in their places quickly before Fleur Delacour makes her way down the isle, her arm linked with her father's.

As I watch her approach the altar to wed with Bill, I start to wonder if that will ever be Makayla and I one day.  I know that we're arguing right now, but I can't help but wonder.  I still love her.  She's still the most beautiful woman I've ever laid my eyes on.  Makayla Malfoy is still the love of my life and, honestly, I don't think any lie could change that.  That's the unfortunate and pathetic part.
