First Year
Jordyn Riddle
Makayla has been getting angry more often. It's not surprising, seeing as Louis won't leave her alone. We start school at Hogwarts in one month and he's already getting on her nerves. You'd think that he would learn by now.
He tried to give her a gift for her birthday. She was grateful, I guess, but didn't show it. She was more annoyed at the fact that he wouldn't leave her alone after she explicitly told him to in kindergarten. I wasn't there for that part, but she talks about it enough for me to feel like I was.
In fact, she talks about him a lot. I mean, more than a person should talk about a person that they hate. I guess I shouldn't be one to judge. My father is Lord Voldemort—who is currently dead. I didn't really get to know him much, but his followers often talk about this Harry Potter boy that they hate so much. It's all they talk about, actually. I've heard of it so much that I've grown to hate the boy, but not for what he did to my father. Instead, I hate him because his name has been spoken around me in whispers and shouts so often that I've grown bitter to the sound of it.
In my personal opinion, I'm always the smarter one in any situation. Makayla is always doing what others want, which is stupid, and Louis is always crying, which is stupid, while I'm always logical, which is smart.
"Could you please get off my back?" Makayla shouts.
They're arguing again. Sometimes it feels as if I'm listening to parents arguing. If I didn't know one of them would murder me if I said it, I'd say that they're like an old married couple—except Makayla already left Louis a long, long time ago, so the title isn't exactly accurate (another reason why I don't tell them that—see? I'm smart!)
I'm walking into Professor Snape's Potions class when Makayla bumps into my side. She and I have an almost identical schedule. Almost all of the first years do. Makayla wants to get on the Quidditch team, but she's too young, so she's decided to wait until next year.
"Do you think that Professor Snape will make Cormac eat a toad again?" she asks, trying and failing to stifle a laugh.
I laugh as well as I say, "I do hope so. The look on his face was priceless!
"Cedric told me that he would've loved to eat a toad," she adds, shivering at the thought. I don't know what I did in response to that, but I think I shivered as well.
With a groan, I sit in my seat in the front of the room where Snape placed me at the beginning of the year when I wouldn't stop talking to the students in the back, inviting them to some parties in the Forbidden Forest. He's just a party pooper.
Makayla sits beside me, setting her bag on the floor next to her chair. There's always been something so cool about Makayla that I haven't been able to comprehend. She carries herself well. Like, look at her hair. It looks like someone stuck unicorn hair on her head and it actually looked good.
"Why are love potions lethal?" Snape asks as he shuts the door and approaches the front of the classroom. All of us stare at him. He rolls his eyes and mutters, "You can raise your hand."
No one moves.
He sighs and points at a random student in the room. But it isn't just any random student. "Lupin," he announces. "Why are love potions lethal?"
