Your shoes felt like they were weighing you down with each step you made up the staircase. Why the hell was your apartment on the fourth floor, and why the hell did you keep taking the closing shifts at the bar? Ready to pass out, you finally made it to your floor and slowly made your way down the hall. Your eyes glanced at your neighbor's door as you walked past, hoping to hear the deep voice of your crush. It was silly since it was past midnight, but you had learned quickly upon moving in that your neighbors seemed not to care what hour they were yelling at.
When you reached your door, you leaned against it with a sigh. Digging through your purse sounded like a chore right now. Slowly, you slid down the door and sat on your mat. Your head fell back against the door with a soft thud, eyes closing.
You don't know how long you were like that before the sound of heavy boots pulled you from your quiet bubble. Before you knew it, a rough hand was on your shoulder, gently shaking you.
"Y/N," Logan's gruff voice echoed in your ears. "Y/N, sweetheart, wake up."
"Mmm?" you hummed. Your head moved to face Logan as your eyes slowly opened.
Logan was crouched down with worry etched on his face. "Are you okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine." You reached out to the sides, stretching.
"Really? You're fast asleep at your doorstep. Did you lose your keys?"
"No, I was too tired after work. What time is it?"
"It's 5:30 in the morning."
You laughed. "Well, at least I got some sleep."
"It's not safe for you to be sleeping out in the hall, Y/N."
The true concern in Logan's eyes caused you to stop laughing. "I know."
"Next time, call Wade or I. We can open the door for ya."
"Thanks."
He gave a little grunt before taking your hand and helping you to stand up straight. Your heart rapidly beat as you realized how close you were standing to Logan. His hand kept a strong hold on yours as the two of you stared at each other.
Logan soon cleared his throat and pulled his hand from yours. "I, uh, I gotta go to work," he said. "You gonna be okay?"
"Yeah," you nodded. "Thanks for waking me."
"Anytime."
Logan watched as you dug your keys out of your purse and unlocked your door. You turned to face him with a soft smile that threatened to melt his hardened shell.
"Thanks again, Logan," you said. "See you around."
"Yeah," he mumbled. "See ya."
He watched as you slipped into your apartment and shut the door. He didn't move until he heard the door lock behind you. Logan stuffed his hands in his leather jacket and turned around to head to work. His mind was on you the entire way there. Ever since Wade had introduced you to him, Logan knew that there was something different about you. You were sweet and kind even when Logan was guarded and often blew you off. But you didn't care. The more interactions with you he had, the more he wanted to get to know you. Though, he was careful about it. Logan was afraid to get too attached to you. Everyone he had ever cared about was dead; he wouldn't let you end up like them.
~~~
Another long day at work as you trudged up the stairs for the second day in a row. This time, you vowed to make it to your bed. As you reached the top of the stairs, you tripped, falling forward. Before you could land harshly on the ground, strong arms caught you.
