CHAPTER 5
Sang pov
I stare at the carpet underneath my feet and just feel kind of numb. So much has happened today that I'm not sure what to do next. I decide that I'm going to be positive about my new situation.
There will be no one calling me stupid or a whore anymore. No one making me kneel on rice or beating me with a cane for the fun of it. I'm alive and she can't hurt me anymore. My life's now my own. I have the power to be whoever and whatever I want to be.
But now I need to clean, organize, and figure out what I need to make this apartment a home. First things first, I pull my stereo out of my trunk and plug it in. Yeah, it still works! I grab my bookshelf and put the stereo on top and plug in the speakers. For once, I find a local pop station and turn the music up.
Taking a look around the room, I try and figure out the best place for my minimal belongings. Once I know where everything should go, I get to work. The routine works sooths me as I put everything where it needs to be.
It takes me less than an hour to get everything set up and put away. I'm sitting at my desk making a list of everything I need, when I hear a pounding sound on the wall. It sounds like it is coming from the apartment next door.
I walk over, turn off the radio, and see if I hear the pounding again. There's no pounding, or any other sounds, so I turn the radio back on and sit down to complete my list.
The next thing I know, someone's banging on my door. I walk to the door and use my peephole. There's a large man standing outside my door. He's so large, that I can only see part of his chin, neck, and shoulders.
As I look closer, I see that he's younger than I thought and gorgeous. He has thick dark hair that's very messy, soulful brown eyes that look very annoyed, and a firm, square face with an olive complexion. He Is Huge and mad at me! Yikes!
While I am still looking at him, he pounds on the door again. He hits the door so hard, that I startle and bump my forehead against the door. I yelp and say "Ouch, hold on." I run over and turn off the music.
I run back and yell through the door. "What do you want?" I say in a trembling voice. He glares at the door. "Will you turn down your music, I'm trying to sleep" he growls with a slight accent. "That's why I pounded on the wall before, to get you to turn it down" he barks.
Holding my head and trembling, I say "Sorry, I'm new here and didn't know what the pounding meant. Please, I'm not trying to cause trouble, I'll make sure to keep the volume down" I squeak.
His face softens and he asks "Did I hear you say ouch before?"
"Yes, you startled me and I bumped my head on the door' I reply in a quiet voice." Please open the door, so I can see if you did any permanent damage?' he asks nicely.
"My name is Silas Korba and I promise I won't hurt you. Sorry, that I yelled at you. Will you please let me make sure that you're all right?" he says in a gentle accented voice.
With shaking hands, I unlock the door, but leave the chain attached. I peer out and he looks down at me with a thoughtful expression. "Please open the door all the way. I can't help you, if I can't see you' he says with such compassion that I shut the door and remove the chain.
I open the door all the way and look up. He towers over me, but now that he has calmed down, I'm not as afraid of him as I was. I take a deep breath and smell an ocean scent, it must be his cologne.
"What's your name?' He gently asks me.
"My name is Sang Sorenson and it's very nice to meet you." I say with a small smile on my face.
