#This file is an in-depth description of known dimensions. Cataloged by Dr. Alphys.
0-Dimensional: An infinitely small point. It neither has mass nor can impact the world it is inhabiting. The existence of this dimension is highly speculative due to its illusive nature. Inferring from our world and hypothetical simulations predict that if anywhere, these points would live and commute around 1-dimensional lines. Whether or not they make up that line or are separate entities entirely is still a matter of fierce debate, as nobody can decide if something infinitely small can join together with other infinitely small things to form something of a higher dimension. The fact that they can both inhabit the point of their being as well as nowhere at all implies that they can tunnel past each other on this 1-dimensional line, quite similarly to how quantum particles can blip past a seemingly solid barrier. However, it can be argued that n-dimensional entities can only move in n-directions, which would imply that a 0-dimensional being can't move at all. It is the only dimension that can be found in ours other than space and time. More specifically, they can be found within dark stars. These spheres of mass are so great that they bend the fabric of time around them by simply existing. They are suspected of containing a one-dimensional point at their center, which carries all of the star's mass at an infinitely small and dense point.
1-Dimensional: For the sake of principles, let us assume that all n-dimensional objects are their own separate entities, disconnected from the (n - 1)-dimensional entity. Having them be made up of infinitely many o-dimensional entities would imply that all of existence, from the world we stand on to the fabric of time, is made from entities that seemingly don't exist at all. That assumption would make the rest of this file redundant and needlessly complicated. These entities in their simplest forms are straight lines. They can be any length as long as they remain inside the 2-dimensional entity they reside in. This might seem like an unnecessary distinction, but having a line extending out of the 2-dimensional entity is like a 3-dimensional entity traveling to a different point in time, at best paradoxical and at worst reality-breaking. If they could move, they would be able to go in two different directions. There is a running theory that 1-dimensional objects make up the world we live in. String theory is something that proposes that the particles that make us up are actually 1-dimensional entities looped into a hollow circle.
2-Dimensional: Entities that have both length and width but are infinitely flat. They are widely known as geometric shapes, but can also extend to entities that don't have a symmetrical perimeter. 2-dimensional shapes are the first ones that can have a uniquely customized "body". Jagged edges and round protrusions are both possible through alterations of a 2-dimensional entity's width and height. They reside in a 3-dimensional space and are capable of moving in four different directions. I would call those directions "up", "down", "left", and "right", but the direction doesn't truly exist if you don't have an origin. Movement could consist of 1 direction or 2 directions at the same time as long as they don't oppose each other. There are no concrete theories or physical objects that can truly represent a 2-dimensional object in real life, but testing is needed to validate this conclusion.
3-Dimensional: Solid shapes. Objects that are made up of solid matter. We've been assuming that these lower-dimensional creatures have a certain amount of consciousness. We cannot be 100 percent sure that they have the ability to recognize their own existence, nor can we say they don't have a unique kind of consciousness limited to their lower dimension. I know that we have consciousness and that a chair does not. Perhaps there are similar dichotomies in both higher and lower dimensions. Our definition of consciousness might differ from one originating from the 1st or 2nd dimensions. Their worlds are far less complex than ours. A less complicated version of consciousness could exist even if we don't consider it to be so. 3-dimensional creatures are capable of moving in 6 primary directions or combinations of 3 directions at the same time, again assuming they don't oppose each other. I should also make the distinction of living in and on a dimension. We live on a 3-dimensional world suspended in 4-dimensional space. It is also quite interesting to think about how we think about lower-dimensional creatures to be missing a dimension, to be infinitely small in certain or multiple aspects. I assume this is how higher-dimensional beings think about us, as being infinitely small in particular facets.
4th-Dimensional: The dimension of time. Though this dimension resides directly above ours, we can speculate about its relation with ours using the lower dimensions we discussed earlier. For example, put a 3-dimensional object in the view of a 2-dimensional creature, and all it'll see will be a line suddenly appearing out of nowhere, growing longer, shrinking, and then disappearing as if it was never there at all. The same concept can be applied to a 4th-dimensional creature entering a 3-dimensional world. Let's say it was a 4th-dimensional sphere to make things less complicated. To us, the sphere would appear out of thin air, steadily growing in diameter before it began to shrink and disappear altogether. Much like the circles in our previous experiment which had to move through the third dimension and hold steady in the 2nd, these spheres are actively moving through time but not space. Their form might shift as time progresses but they are not moving. Every point and difference brought on by the passage of time is a part of their 4th-dimensional shape. If this explanation doesn't make sense or is causing inexplicable pain in the head, please take a break before continuing. Trying to understand a dimension higher than your own might cause unforeseen consequences. Unregulated exposure to a higher dimension could shatter your sense of self, gut your mind, and rob you of your sanity. Some secrets should stay undiscovered, especially if they belong to the universe. There is such a thing as knowing too much about the world you live in. If you can't handle the fact that your life might be a fabrication, then maybe you should be content with the bounds that make up your world. Still mentally stable? Alright, let's finish. Teleportation is also theoretically possible using the 4th dimension. If one were to have the ability to travel through dimensions, then they could remove themselves from the third dimension, move somewhere in between the 4th and 3rd dimensions, and then move back into the 3rd dimension at roughly the same time but in a completely different place.
Partial-Dimensional: The simplest way of representing partial dimensions is thinking about them like this. They reside in two different dimensions at the same time but might tend to one over the other. A 3.5-dimensional being will tend to reside in a 3-dimensional space but can also "see" and interact with a 4-dimensional being. For lower dimensions, a 90-degree contortion in the higher dimension can push them toward that higher dimension. A line bent at 90 degrees becomes an angle, a piece of a 2-dimensional shape. A 2-dimensional plane bent at 90 degrees becomes an edge to a cube. Taking a lower-dimensional object into a higher dimension, making a 180-degree rotation, and returning it to the original dimension will result in a temporally altered object, one with cannot be reverted in lower-dimensional rotations. Funnily a 360-degree rotation seems to have the same effect no matter what dimension you're in or brought to.
