"Heya kiddo."
The human stood once again at the beginning of the golden hall. Magistic pillars with unique engravings and bumps, stained glass glowing with some sort of divine light, and checkered ceramic tiles shining beneath her feet. The strange light scent of flowers permeated the entire room.
Before her stood a familiar figure. Pink slippers, blue jacket, white T-shirt, and shorts, it was the skeleton that had been ignoring and avoiding her. Not once did she see him on her entire crusade back, yet now he was in front of her, his pinprick eyes boring a hole through her face.
His calm and cheery smile never ceased to freak the human out. It always was like he knew more than he let on, more than he should at the very least.
It was strange, the last time she was here. It was like she was alive one moment, then gone the next. She didn't even get to process anything before bones pierced her body and a monster skull evaporated her. Stranger still is that instead of going back to the last star she stayed at, she was sent back to the very beginning, a massive hole above her and the patch of golden flowers.
Is that skeleton really that powerful? It felt like even with all those LVs gained from the monsters she didn't have a chance.
"It looks like you really went all out with this one huh? Clearly, I did something wrong last time, since not even those before Snowdin were spared."
The human couldn't find it in herself to reply.
The skeleton's gaze darkens, "Hey I guess at least now I don't have to explain to my friend why some promises can't be kept."
"Now that you know the stakes, I suppose you'll be less... reckless. I certainly am not going hold back after what you've done, so be on the tips of your feet, lest you end up at the beginning once more."
The skeleton shut his eyes.
"It's a beautiful day outside of the underground. The birds are singing extraordinary melodies, and the flowers are blooming brilliantly."
His eyes snapped open, "It's truly a shame that we're both bound here, forever doomed to burn in hell."
The world fades to black, the skeleton's blazing blue eye and white silhouette stand out against the black background.
It is once again, her time to be judged.
She lunged forward, tucking into a roll to avoid the bones that spiked out of the ground behind her, their presence only denoted by the trembling of the ground beneath her. The human quickly recovered and returned to an evasive stance.
Sans stood there across the room, seemingly unamused by what was going on.
"Huh... still alive? It worked last time," Sans joked, offering a shrug to the human.
In what seemed like a fraction of a second, the human closed the distance with a crimson blade in hand, quickly avoiding the volley of bones thrown at her. Then she planted her feet with a small skid, dragging her weapon up in a glimmering crescent.
And yet... it was almost as if the layers of space folded in upon itself in that moment, transporting a part of itself to a different place, leaving the human off balance and swinging wildly at thin air. Her eyes darted around, looking for her target who had somehow mysteriously disappeared from right beneath her nose. A small part of her mind already knew what was about to happen.
Sans was much stronger than anticipated.
"What? Thought I was gonna stand still for ya? I ain't no dummy."
Sans was now at her side, jacket swishing in the air as he waved his hand up in a smooth and rapid motion.
"Better luck next time kiddo, or not. I can always hope you choose another way, right?"
