Bre Rush POV
"And the winner of lead actress in a Broadway musical is....."
I squeezed Sam's hand so tight it might have cut off his blood circulation. Breanna needs to win. She is too amazing. My eyes glanced over at Breanna and she looked like she was going to fall out of her chair.
The announcer was taking forever to open the envelope. Come on! We don't have all day! Then. the announcer read the card to themselves and dropped it. The person was in complete shock. They picked the card up again and lifted the award in the air.
"Kelli O'Hara, The King and I...." A lot of people were shocked in the audience. They were whispering and pointing. Some clapped but all the others were shocked. Breanna deserved that award. She worked her butt off this year! Sam had released my hand from squeezing and as did I. Breanna was almost in tears.
"I saw that musical and she was amazing. I should've known my competition was better than me. God I shouldn't have convinced myself I was going to win." That was when she broke down. My phone started to buzz, I knew I should've turned the thing off. I looked down and it was Caleb. I made a dash for the door and went into the hallway. I clicked answer just in time.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey Bre... is Breanna okay? We are all watching the live performance and...."
"I think she will be okay, I mean, she knows she's amazing and deserved it." I spoke to him.
"Yeah, so when are you guys going to be back at the hotel? I can't handle these boys! Avi and Kevin are wrestling and Mitch is screaming like a girl. And, there is a surprise coming for youuuu!" I jumped and screamed a little bit. A few well known actors and actresses stared at me for a second before going back to their conversations.
I thought about when we were leaving before I answered him. "We were going to leave after Breannas nomination anyways so I'll head on by myself right now."
"Are you going to be okay by yourself?"
"Yes Caleb." He laughed a little because I said it in the 'I'm a snotty teenager who is going through a phase' voice.
"Call an uber and be home immediately. Tell me where you are every second okay? New York is a pretty scary place for a pretty girl to roam the streets alone without a man." I blushed at his 'pretty girl' comment.
"Okay Caleb, love you byeeeeee."
"Wh-" I ended the call while he was in mid sentence. I walked out the doors and paparazzi stared at me for a second to see if I was anyone special. One of them called out.
"It's Bre Rush! The Sing-Off season 2! Friend of Breanna Macks. and she's leaving without her!"
The pictures started to flash. I couldn't see. A few security guys came over and shielded me. I think they knew I was scared.
At the end of the red carpet there were limos lined up. Well fuck, seems like I have to walk a ways to get a cab. The paps ignored me because more important people had came out. The walk for a taxi was harder than I thought. Most cabs were taken. I decided to text Caleb.
Me: Hey.... I can't find a cab so I will just walk I guess. It's pretty far but I might make it.
He replied in seconds.
Caleb: Nope, walking is too dangerous. Stand next to a public area where people can see you and try to find a cab. The surprise is waiting and walking would make it longer....
Me: OKAY, THE SURPRISE DOESN'T LEAVE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.
I stuffed my phone back in the small handbag I brought to the awards. The dress I was wearing was probably dirty as fuck right now but who really gives a shit. A convenience store was still open so I decided to wait there. Some people passed and looked me up and down. A few men whistled at me and brushed them off.
