第二十六

warnings: possilbe mischaracterisation, misnformation in Kunigami's background (my take on it)

Sae's been acting funny around you, well, so have you. The both of you not daring to do something about the weird thing in the air, as if squeaming around the edges of it.

In any case, you had to continue doing whatever you had to, as much as your mind lingered on Sae, you had to do what you were meant to.

And that included this.

You stood in front of the house, taking in a deep breath as you calmed your nervousness, swaying back and forth on your feet before letting out your breath and being walking towards the door. You knock on the door and wait patiently for the door to open.

When you hear the creak of the door handle being pulled down and the door opens to reveal an older woman with orange hair, the color with which you were familiar with. "Ah...Miss (L/N)? I wasn't aware you would be visiting us today- my son hadn't told me-" she begins as she observes you, looking up to meet your gaze as you appeared to be just as tall as you did on screen.

You smile at her and shake your head, "ah no- no this is meant to be a sort of 'surprise' visit. I just wanted to check on Rensuke. Apologies, I should've given you a heads up earlier on." You pause as you glance around before glancing to her. "Sorry to bother, if this is an inconvenient time I can always come back another time-" you say quickly as you observe her expression.

She waves off your worry and smiles, "no worries dear. This is a good time, come in- come in." She steps aside and pulls the door to open wider, allowing you to enter the house.

You bow slightly in thanks, "thank you, Mrs Kunigami." You straighten up and take off your shoes, setting it aside by the door before walking into the house. You look around the place, it's neatly kept, everything organised in the right place. Right by the door is a small table that held the car keys and other keys, a photo of the Kunigami family below and your eyes linger as you take in the apperance of younger Rensuke.

His mom directed you towards his room, walking up the stairs quietly as you looked around. There were quite a few photos of Rensuke along with his two sisters. His mother glanced to you almost nervoulsy before speaking up, "Rensuke came back a bit...different. I don't know what happened to him whilst he was away for that football program, but he's definitely not the same as before."

You knew why.

You nod your head in acknowledgement and smile at her, "duly noted." You let out a soft huff as you stopped in front of a wooden door, obviously the door that would open up to his room. You watched as his mom nodded to you before walking away, leaving you alone in front of the door.

A few seconds of silence pass by before you find the will to knock on the door softly, the knock almost sounding heavy with anticipation.

Another few seconds of silence.

Then the door opens to reveal a familiar yet different figure.

Gone was the kind gaze you were used to, the relaxed and easy going posture you were familiar with. The one you were met with was a heavier stare, something riddled with a bleakness you recognised all too well, his posture slouched yet with a touch of menace you thought he was incapable of.

But then he took in your appearance and faltered, eyes widening slightly, "(Y/N)?"

It was a wonder how his voice had deepened, sullened, emptied.

You nod your head at him and offer him a small smile in return, "hi Kunigami. Been a while." The both of you just stand there before Kunigami snaps back to reality and allows you into his room, almost fumbling over his actions in surprise.
