Just a tiny smut part for this one 😭

Since the night when Rain had joined Phantom in the shower, there was an undeniable tension between them. Even the others had noticed it. It wasn't really weird or uncomfortable, it was just odd sometimes. The longer, lingering looks, or the occasional touches. Neither of them acted further on those things, because they weren't really sure if they could call it love. Even though that had already had sex and slept in the same bed once or twice it was still not clear what it was. Rain didn't want to ruin what they had, and Phantom was merely too shy.

They tried to ignore the other ghoul's whispers and looks. Rain and Phantom could both tell that they had all figured out what had happened between them already, and at this point they were all just shipping them. They'd make up a cute couple after all. But Rain and Phantom didn't want to hear anything of it. Phantom knew what he wanted, what he felt for the water ghoul, and after he had asked Rain and hadn't gotten a clear answer, he felt rather insecure. He felt almost ashamed and stupid for thinking Rain could feel the same for him, as he did for Rain. But what should he think, after they had fucked and slept together, with cuddling and all that? It had felt so good, and so much like love.

And then he hadn't gotten a proper answer. The quint had acted like he didn't care about it, like it was okay for him to live without knowing how Rain really felt. But in reality he didn't manage to fall asleep at night anymore, because of the lack of an answer. That only made him feel even more silly, though, and he didn't dare to ask Rain again. What if he didn't receive an answer again? He couldn't bear living with such a disappointment and humiliation.

Tonight he felt even worse than on other nights. He couldn't get that night out of his head. The night when Rain had just gotten into the shower with him, touched him like that and then just... completely avoided Phantom's question. Was he the problem? But just what did Phantom do? Why couldn't he at least get a "no" from Rain? Then he wouldn't have to think about it so much. He wouldn't have to wonder if one day he might get an answer, wether that would be a yes or a no. At this point he would be okay with either answer. Then he could at least move on.

He tossed and turned, but no matter how much he tried, he wouldn't get any sleep. He gave up after an hour or two. He got out of bed instead and went back into the common room, guessing he would be alone there. He looked around the room that was now indeed empty. The fire in the fireplace was just barely glimmering now. Maybe he had hoped to meet someone there. Preferably Rain, but honestly just anyone. Maybe one of the ghoulettes so he could talk about his damn problems with someone. He felt like he really needed to tell someone what he was going through, and maybe receive some tips from them. But luck didn't seem to be on his side in this thing.

He felt his thoughts swirling again, wandering back to Rain and to that night. He couldn't stop feeling like he had done something wrong. That he had said something stupid. But then again, couldn't Rain just tell him something? Just a no would make everything more easy. Phantom groaned and left the common room, going out into the gardens instead. Maybe some fresh air would help him clear his mind. He was so distracted that he hadn't even realized that the door that led outside had been slightly open. But being outside did little to ease his nerves too. The quint tried to think about something else as he wandered through the gardens, and he eventually left them and walked up towards the pond.

With a heavy sigh he sat down on the web bridge. He sat criss legged, elbows on his knees and his head placed on his hands. He felt exhausted, mentally at least. He stared at the dark water and at his reflection, watching as it made light waves. His eyebrows furrowed as the water suddenly got restless, making more and stronger waves, and blurring his reflection. His heart nearly stopped as suddenly someone emerged from the pitch black. He gasped and scurried back, feeling like he almost suffered a heart attack. But then he heard the familiar laugh from Rain, and soon enough he saw him climbing onto the web bridge.
