Aether and Phantom had gotten together practically immediately after the young ghoul's summoning. And while Aether was happy with having Phantom as his boyfriend, he sometimes had his moments where was actually embarrassed about the way they had gotten together in the first place. He sometimes found himself laying awake in bed, the younger quint snuggled up against his chest and sleeping soundly, while he himself was thinking of that one night. Like right now. Aether was laying in bed, and Phantom was curled up against him. Aether was comfortable, and he had never felt as good as he had with Phantom as his partner. The other ghouls could tell that the two quints completed each other well. And yet Aether sometimes felt so... stupid for the way they had gotten together.

<>Throwback<>

As usual when a ghoul was summoned, a little party was being prepared in the ghoul's den. The clergy had never been a fan of them, but they couldn't forbid the ghouls to have their fun in the space that was solely theirs. So, drinks and food were being prepared and the whole place was decorated a little bit. Phantom had been in the ministry for a little more than two weeks, and he had settled in well. He got along great with the other ghouls, but everyone had quickly realized that he had a special liking for Aether. But no one was confused about it. They were both quints, so of course there would be a certain pull between them, even if they were both men. Among ghouls, they didn't care too much about gender. Especially not in a place that usually only allowed one ghoul of each kind.

When the party started, and the ghouls started to play some games and to drink, Aether quickly found himself eyeing the newest pack addition from afar. No matter how often he told himself to quit being such a weirdo, he just couldn't bring himself to look away. Phantom was truly an eye catcher, young and quite handsome. Aether knew he was a couple years older, but he hoped that Phantom wouldn't find him creepy. Because he wasn't. Aether was such a nice guy, and everyone knew that.

The alcohol simply made him feel all warm on the inside, and he felt the usual buzz in his head and chest. The new quint just looked extra cute tonight, and with everything going on, Aether couldn't help it when his thoughts drifted off into a direction he had tried to avoid all this time. But tonight, with the buzz of the alcohol, it wasn't possible. No way. Phantom on the other hand, was doing his absolute best to not pay much attention to it. As they all sat in a circle to play one of their usual drinking games, he tried to focus on the game and the others, not on the other quint which was constantly staring at him. Not because he thought Aether was weird, no, simply because he knew how it would end. And he wasn't sure if they could do that. He didn't know the ministry good enough for that.

But as the night, the alcohol and the games progressed, there was a certain spark between them, which was constantly growing. Aether eventually found himself sitting next to Phantom on a couch, and it needed a lot from the older quint not to outright touch the younger. Phantom looked gorgeous tonight, with his mismatched eyes, that cute white streak in his hair and those absolutely adorable freckles. But he had made a promise to himself a while ago; no more drunken one night stands. When he had been younger, during the time of Terzo, he had partied a lot and it had often resulted to him unintentionally waking up in Dew's or Ifrit's bed. He didn't really want to get back to those times, as he was not particularly proud of them.

It was almost 3 am when Aether knew he was about to lose it. He was black out drunk, and he knew if he continued to sit this close to Phantom, he would make that exact mistake like back then. "Sorry guys, I'll be right back. I need some... fresh air," he said, wearing a sheepish smile as he made up his excuse. He quickly got up and rushed out of the room, out into the gardens. Phantom looked after him, a small, worried frown on his face. He immediately missed having Aether and his warmth right next to him on the sofa. "Uh... me too," he then spoke up, and without looking back at the others, he followed after Aether. The group changed a couple looks, knowing grins on their faces. They could tell that with how drunk both ghouls were, they were bound to mess things up tonight.
