When eli was 5 he lived in the same house he does now. In a very nice neighbourhood but he wasnt friends with any of the kids who lived on his street. He was too shy and scared to speak to them because he thought they'd bully him for his cleft lip because everyone at school did but that changed when y/n moved next door.
At first he stayed away from her but he watched her with interest. She seemed energetic and full of life. Every time he looked out the window she was out in her front yard looking at the insects or jumping in the puddles if it was raining and one day he was sat outside on his porch on a rainy day with his wellies and his raincoat on waiting for his mom to come out so she can take him to demetris his only friend when he heard her running out of her house to jump in the puddles.
He watched her giggling with a huge smile on her face as she jumped up and down. She jumped a few more times when she spotted eli watching her.
" hey" she yelled excitedly waving at eli.
Eli froze. He didnt know what to do. He wasn't expecting her to see him or talk to him.
He waved awkwardly back but didnt speak. This made y/n smile and rush towards him to talk to him. She hasn't made any friends on the street yet either. She tried but all the kids thought she was annoying because of how energetic and bubbly she was.
" what's your name" she asked coming near his porch but not onto it.
" e-eli" he said shyly.
" oh cool name. I'm y/n" she said putting her hand out for him to shake. He awkwardly did so. As he did so he lifted his head and she saw his lip for the first time.
"Wow that's a cool scar. Your like harry potter" she smiled amazed. Shes never met anyone with a scar before.
This made eli smile. No kid apart from demetri has ever been that nice about his lip.
This nice comment made him warm up to y/n fast and ever since that first interaction they've been super close. They went through everything together. There first dates, breakups, the bullying and eli was there for her when her mom died. He never left her side. Eli was the first person y/n went to when she needed someone and eli would be there and vice versa.
Unfortunately when high school started and eli became hawk things changed. At first everything was fine. Hawk was never horrible to her but one day at a party he called her clingy and shoved her to the floor infront of everyone making her cry.
Of course he didnt want to do this to her but everyone was watching and he was scared of looking like a nerd.
After that y/n stopped hanging out with him and eli watched her from afar.
She started hanging out with demetri more and joined miyagi do. She never really saw eli anymore which was sad for her but what he did really hurt her.
Eli watched her from afar though. At school at lunch he would watch her laughing and having fun with her friends in miyagi do wishing he was making her laugh like that. He also rooted for her from afar. Y/n always wanted to be an actor and when eli heard she auditioned for the main part in the school play he hoped to god she would get the part and she did.
He saw her telling demetri she got the part and he saw how happy she was. She was jumping up down with a huge smile on her face. This made hawk smile. He was proud of her. It just saddened him she wasnt talking to him about anything anymore and he couldn't tell her how proud he was of her but one day he got the opportunity to talk to her.
His parents and him were invited to her house for dinner by her dad. This made him happy but he didn't know how y/n was going to be with him.
That night he went over with his parents and saw y/n on the sofa memorizing her lines for the play. When hawk walked in she didnt even look up. It was like she felt his presence and knew he was there and didn't want to look up at him.
" oh mr and mrs Moskowitz. Eli how nice to see you" her dad said greeting them.
"Say hello y/n" he said as she still tried to ignore eli.
"Hi mr and mrs Moskowitz" she said but ignored eli.
Eli frowned sadly but he deserved it. He shouldn't have treated her so badly.
As they were waiting for dinner his parents went into the kitchen to help so he awkwardly sat beside y/n in the living room.
He could definitely feel the tension and he so desperately wanted to break the tension and talk to her.
" so ermmm I heard your going to be in a play. Thats awesome. I'm really proud of you" he said shyly becoming his old self in that moment.
Y/n just ignored him. Yes she missed him but what he did really hurt. She thought he was going to protect her and be there for her forever but he became a person that hurt her and she didnt know if she could let him back in after that.
" y/n.....I'm really sorry for what I did. You have no idea how guilty I feel about hurting you. I was supposed to protect you and be the person who looked after you just like we always looked after each other but I hurt you and I'm so sorry. I love you and I miss you. Watching you for all these months be without me has really hard but being without you was even harder. I want you by my side always because I love you" he started getting emotional.
For a few moments there was a silence.
" now who's the clingy one" y/n said.
Hawk looked up at her and saw she didn't look mad. She looked happy to hear those words come out his mouth.
" look eli what you did was horrible but I've really missed you. These past months has felt like my other half was missing because you've always been there and then suddenly you weren't and that sucked" y/n said.
" I was still there. I was just there from afar because I thought you hated me" hawk said.
" I could never" she said smashing her lips into his and hugging him not wanting to let him go ever again.
