The palace is silent, cloaked in the heavy exhaustion of the day's events. Everyone has retired for the night but sleep does not come easy. They ate dinner together yet none could swallow more than a few bites. The weight of what happened still lingers like an unshakable shadow. But while the rest of the household has succumbed to restless slumber, two figures remain awake.
Shivansh strides through the garden, his earphones plugged in as slow music filling the spaces where peace should have been. The cool night air brushes against his skin but it does nothing to ease the turmoil inside him. His muscles remain tense, his mind restless. Adwait called earlier, confirming the plan's success but the news hasn't settled the unease in his chest. Because while they know the rift between them is just an illusion, their enemies do not. And that's what makes this moment dangerous.
Right now, they are vulnerable and wide open for any attack. The Chowdhury's must be watching, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Perhaps others are too, enemies lurking in the dark, some known, some unknown. Despite all the precautions, he knows better than to underestimate the unpredictability of fate.
"It seems you can't sleep."
Shivansh halts, his shoulders stiffening slightly. He doesn't turn around, he doesn't need to. He recognizes that voice anywhere.
"I can say the same thing for you, Bhai." Shivansh responds, his tone flat.
"Are you still angry with me?" Kavyansh asks although the answer is obvious.
"Don't you already know the answer?" Shivansh retorts, a bitter chuckle leave his lips.
Meanwhile, Kavyansh remains silent. Guilt sits like a boulder on his chest, suffocating him more than he can take. He should have listened. He should have waited. Shivansh had warned him that sending Kiyansh to school before neutralizing the threat was reckless. But he had been stubborn, too desperate for normalcy, too eager to believe that danger wouldn't reach his son in broad daylight. He made a mistake, a grave one. And for the first time, he is certain that stepping away from the throne was the right choice. He was never fit to rule, never meant to carry the weight of a kingdom when he couldn't even shield his own child.
Shivansh turns around as his face rigid with his jaw clenched, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. His eyes burn with unmasked fury as he glares at Kavyansh, who stands before him, his shoulders slightly slumped, accepting the storm he knows is about to come.
"Do you even realize what you have done? Do you have any idea what could have happened today?" Shivansh's voice is sharp, cutting through the night like a blade.
Kavyansh doesn't speak. He just looks at his younger brother, knowing he deserves every word of his anger.
"I told you, Bhai! I warned you that Kiyansh's safety should have been our first priority. That we shouldn't take any risks until we were absolutely sure every threat was eliminated. But no! You thought you knew better!" Shivansh takes a step closer, his voice rising.
"I made a mistake, Shivansh." Kavyansh accepts but Shivansh scoffs, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"A mistake is forgetting an important document at a meeting. But putting Kiyansh in danger? That wasn't just a mistake, Bhai! That was negligence!" Shivansh remarks making Kavyansh to closes his eyes.
"Do you even understand what would have happened if Hulk and Shardul weren't there? Kiyansh would have been gone, Bhai. Gone. And you-" Shivansh's voice wavers slightly but he stops abruptly as his fists tremble.
