Debanjon picks up the box and hurls it to the floor in rage, the sound echoing through the room as the bleeding heart tumbles out of the box making the metallic scent of blood fills the air. On the other hand, Kanonbala's eyes widen in horror at the sight of the bleeding organ, her lips parting to scream. But before a sound can escape, a strong hand clasps over her mouth. A firm grip pulls her away from the scene, dragging her into the shadows.

"Shh, Maa, it's me. Indra. Please, stay quiet." Indrajit whispers urgently, feeling her struggling hands trying to pry his off.

Kanonbala freezes at the familiar voice of her younger son. Her body relaxes slightly, though her heart still pounds in fear. Once he feels her stop resisting, Indrajit quickly leads her inside his room, locking the door behind them with a sigh of relief. Thankfully, no one saw them slipping away. Otherwise, this would have turned into a far bigger problem.

Kanonbala stands still, her breath uneven. The gruesome image of the bleeding heart still burns in her mind.

"What's going on, Indra? What was that thing on the floor?" She asks, her voice shaking as she looks at her son.

Indrajit signals her to sit on the bed and as soon as she does, he kneels on the floor beside her feet with his hands resting on her lap.

"Maa, that was a real heart." His voice is gentle, knowing how fragile his mother is. But no matter how much it hurts, she needs to know the truth because the coming days will test them all. Instantly, Kanonbala gasps as her hands start trembling.

"A real heart? But why would someone send such a thing to your father?" She whispers, her voice barely audible.

"Maa, you know Baba and Mejhda have been trying to find Didibhai, right?" Indrajit asks and hearing his words, a silent tear escapes Kanonbala's eye at the mention of her daughter. She nods while dread pooling in her stomach.

"That heart was sent by Didibhai's daughter." Indrajit remarks while Kanonbala's breath hitches.

"My little Meghu has a daughter?" She asks as fresh tears brimming in her aged eyes. The thought of her lost daughter having a child, her own granddaughter brings an ache so deep that it almost feels unreal.

"Not just a daughter, Maa. Didibhai gave birth to twins. A boy and a girl." Indrajit continues, gripping his mother's wrinkled hands. And for a fleeting moment, a small, teary smile forms on Kanonbala's lips. But it quickly fades into confusion.

"But why would Meghu's daughter send such a thing to your Baba, Indra? And how do you know all this?" Kanonbala asks looking at her son for answers because a lot of questions are arising in her mind.

Indrajit looks away, guilt clouding his face. He knows his mother will be hurt when she realizes how much he has hidden from her. But he hopes she will understand. So, after taking a deep breath, he begins to tell her everything.

"Baba and Mejhda have done unthinkable things to Didibhai over the years. They murdered her husband right in front of her eyes. They left her to die after beating her within an inch of her life. They even killed the people who saved her."

Kanonbala's face goes pale. Her lips part but no words come out. Meanwhile, Indrajit continues as his voice filled with barely suppressed anger.

"And now, they want to kill her daughter. They want to kill Didibhai's grandson too."

A strangled sob escapes Kanonbala's throat. The weight of the truth crashes down on her, leaving her numb. Because this is definitely not something she imagined to hear.
