The sun has already dipped behind the hills, casting a warm glow through the large windows of the Rathore family room. The air is filled with the aroma of freshly fried samosas and the sharp, comforting scent of masala chai. Cushions are fluffed, cups clink against saucers and laughter echoes in the background as everyone settles down.
It's one of those rare evenings where almost everyone is present- sharing simple snacks, moments and warmth.
Ritika, seated beside Geetanjali with a half-eaten samosa in her hand, suddenly speaks up, mischief dancing in her eyes.
"Indra Uncle, how did you and Dr. Bhavya meet? I mean, how did it all begin?"
A hush falls over the room as all eyes turn toward Indrajit, who pauses mid-sip of his tea and raises a brow. Bhavya, seated a few cushions away, looks at him with faint amusement. Varenya glances between them curiously while Kavyansh leans back, visibly interested.
"It's not a filmy story, I assure you." Indrajit clears his throat, chuckling.
"We met through a mutual friend. Actually, my best friend's cousin was doing MBBS with Bhavya in the same medical college." He continues, the corners of his eyes crinkling. Bhavya nods once as if confirming the tale.
"One day, I was at my best friend's house for dinner and his cousin brought a few of her friends along. That's when I first saw Bhavya. I was very much infatuated. She was smart, graceful and had this quiet confidence that just drew you in." Indrajit's gaze softens slightly.
"I wasn't even remotely interested in him." Bhavya rolls her eyes playfully.
Everyone chuckles.
"No, she wasn't. But I didn't stop pursuing her. Gently, of course. I never crossed any lines. I just stayed. Eventually, she agreed to be friends." Indrajit agrees with a grin.
"And from friends to more." Bhavya says, sipping her tea.
"After a few months, I told her how I felt and asked her to be my girlfriend. And she said yes." Indrajit continues.
"I wasn't someone who hid things from my parents, so I told them everything. I told them about Indrajit and later, they met him too. They liked him instantly. Gave us their blessings without hesitation." Bhavya smiles faintly.
"For a while, everything was perfect." Indrajit says, then falls quiet. His fingers tighten slightly around the edge of his cup.
"And then?" Meghna asks softly, sensing the shift already feeling guilty.
"And then he broke up with me. Just like that. No explanation. No reason. One day he was mine and the next, he wasn't." Bhavya answers instead.
There is a pause. Even Kiyansh stops munching on his samosa, sensing the change in the air.
"I completed my MBBS, did my internship. Then I moved back to Bhubaneswar with my parents for my residency." Bhavya continues calmly.
A silence falls over the room. Not uncomfortable but full of emotions left unsaid for too long.
"Bhavya, I am so sorry. For everything you went through. For what happened back then." Meghna's voice wavers a little as she speaks.
"You don't need to apologise, Meghna Di. No one does. What happened was meant to be happen. Some things are written by fate. Maybe that break was needed. Maybe the distance, the silence, was all part of the journey." But Bhavya shakes her head gently. Her eyes meet Indrajit's and this time, there is no trace of pain only peace.
