ONE & HALF YEAR LATER~
"Dr. Varenya, the patient's family wants to meet you." A nurse says as Varenya scrubs her hands after coming out of the operation theatre.
"Okay, you go. I am coming." Varenya replies, drying her hands. The nurse nods and leaves.
Varenya quickly freshens up, washes her face, fixes her coat and walks toward the waiting area. As soon as the patient's family sees her, they smile with relief and fold their hands to greet her.
"Thank you so much, doctor. If you hadn't been there, my wife and our child wouldn't have survived." The man says, holding back tears. His wife gave birth to a baby boy just half an hour ago after going into early labour.
"It's my duty to help patients. Also, I just assisted in the surgery. All the credit goes to my senior doctor, who came as soon as she got informed about the emergency." Varenya smiles softly and speaks politely.
"You are wrong, Dr. Varenya." Says firm a voice from behind.
Varenya turns and sees Dr. Neha, the senior gynecologist, walking toward them.
"Ma'am..." Varenya starts to speak but Dr. Neha gently raises her hand.
"You didn't just assist me. You managed the emergency before I arrived. Your shift was already over when the patient came. You could have gone home but you didn't. You stayed with her. You checked her condition, kept her calm, informed the OT team and made sure everything was ready for the C-section. When I reached, you were already prepared." Dr. Neha says while Varenya looks down, a little shy and emotional.
"Your wife and baby are safe today because of Dr. Varenya's presence of mind and dedication." Dr. Neha turns to the family and adds with a soft voice.
"Thank you truly. You saved my family." The man folds his hands again in front of Varenya, this time with even more respect.
"Please take care of your wife and the baby now. That's what matters the most." Varenya gives him a kind smile.
"The patient has been shifted to the room. You can meet her now." Just then a nurse walks in and says.
The man and his family fold their hands again toward Varenya and Dr. Neha before rushing to the room with smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes.
Once they leave, Dr. Neha turns to Varenya. There is a proud look on her face.
"You handled everything very well, Varenya. I am really proud to have a junior doctor like you, so dedicated and calm even in tough situations." Dr. Neha says warmly.
"Thank you, ma'am. I have always wanted to help people. And now that I am finally doing it as a doctor, it feels like a dream come true." Varenya smiles softly, her eyes a little shy but bright.
"It's not just a dream. It's only the beginning, Varenya. I can already see a great future ahead of you. One day, you will be one of the best gynecologists in the country. Mark my words." Dr. Neha nods, clearly moved.
Varenya gets a little emotional. Her eyes shine with tears because she is finally fulfilling her Baba's dream. But she controls herself and simply smiles at her senior with deep respect.
Just then, her phone beeps in her coat pocket.
She pulls it out and sees a message from her mother:
"Call me whenever you are free."
