"Adi, did you call Indra?" Meghna asks, kneading a soft dough for Rosogolla in the kitchen.
"Hm, I did. When they reached Bhuvneshwar Airport." Adwait replies, sipping his steaming cup of masala tea.
"So I have got enough time to finish the Rosogolla, then I'll start with Pakhala Bhaat." Meghna says, focused on her task.
"Maa, what is Pakhala Bhaat?" Adwait asks, his curiosity genuine.
"It's a traditional Odia dish made with fermented rice and a mix of simple ingredients. In our Bengali culture, we call it Paanta Bhaat." Meghna explains and Adwait's eyes widen with interest.
"Oh wow. Does it have any health benefits?" Adwait asks. Being a gym addict, food benefits always intrigue him.
"Lots. But the biggest one- it keeps the stomach cool, especially in hot weather. And since the temperature's rising, it's perfect for lunch. I even took permission from Aaradhya ji to prepare it, since Indra and Dr. Bhavya will arrive by then." Meghna says, not noticing the slight shift in Adwait's expression when she mentions asking permission.
He is not hurt, though. He understands it's just in her nature. Even though the Rathore's have told her she doesn't need permission for anything, her humility doesn't change. And honestly, he has seen how respectfully she is treated here. He owes the Rathores a lot because their support made him who he is today.
"Maa, Didon and others are going to stay at the mansion. You'll stay with them too, right? So we all can be together, like a big happy family." Adwait says hopefully.
Meghna pauses, sensing the quiet plea in her son's voice. Of course she wants to stay. But she also has her values. This is her daughter's in-laws' home. No matter how kind they are, some boundaries still matter to her.
"Of course, I will come along. After all, I have found you after so many years. I want to stay close to you." Meghna replies with a smile.
"That's cheating, Mamoni." Varenya interrupts, walking into the kitchen with a frown.
"What cheating, Varu?" Adwait asks, raising a brow.
"That Mamoni is planning to leave." Varenya says, folding her arms.
"Mamoni, you can't leave me. You have been staying with me and you will continue to stay with me. This palace is huge, we all can live here together. I will talk to Daddu, Mumma, Papa, Shivu, Kavi, everyone. And I am sure they will agree with me." Varenya insists, voice laced with emotion.
"Shh, calm down. Adi, get her some water." Meghna says softly.
Adwait obeys, pouring some water in a a glass before offering it to his sister. Varenya refuses at first but caves when Adwait gives her the look. She sips the water silently, still sulking.
Meghna washes her hands and gently wipes them on a towel before walking over. She cups her daughter's cheek, eyes full of love.
"I won't let you go anywhere." Varenya murmurs.
"A mother can't stay forever in her daughter's in-laws' home, Anu. As a guest, yes. But not as a permanent member." Meghna replies softly.
"But why not? Why is it always the son's job to take care of the parents? If my husband's home is my home, why can't my mother call it hers too? I don't care about what others say, Mamoni. I can't stay away from you. You, Maa and Baba were all I had before I met Kavi's family. I already lost Maa and Baba. I can't lose you too." Varenya says, wiping away a stubborn tear.
